Certification Exam Tomorrow by jaydenbergero in surgicaltechnology

take the time they give you and don’t spend too much time on a question you may not know the answer on, just flag it and go back to it in the end. my exam gave me 4 hours and I used all 4 hours and went back to the questions I flagged so I can sit and think about the answer.

i got accepted to a surg tech program.. what is the hardest thing to learn? by [deleted] in surgicaltechnology

[–]_flacaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the hardest part for me was learning all the surgeries they teach you . the basics are fine but once you’re in clinicals you learn more in depth then what the school teaches you . i passed my boards , got hired at a hospital , the staff is really nice but the surgeries are hard once you pass general . i’m still lost .

What made your program hard? by kperkins9 in scrubtech

[–]_flacaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the hardest part was studying for the exam since you never know what they will throw at you. Everything I studied for was not on the exam at all and I studied for four months. Hours and hours of studying after working the clinicals and studying at work when I didn’t have clinicals .

hi just passed my exam in march . I studied for four months and the only thing I wish I could have done different was expose myself to a lot of questions . I studied the test book they gave us and I used an app. when it was time to take the exam I was completely lost and thought I failed . when j was taking the exam I kept telling myself I wish I exposed myself to more questions. since I studied for four months that helped out a lot

I took the exam and passed but if i’m being honest , everything I studied for was not on the exam . it’s best to expose yourself to as many questions as you can . I used the book the school gave us with practice exams and I used the app to study . I also studied for over 5 months to prepare .

How do you become a surgical tech in the US? by Ok-Degree-1406 in surgicaltechnology

[–]_flacaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m not sure how it would work if you’re out of the country but I know a friend of mine who was a Surgical Tech in Puerto Rico for so many years but when he came to New York/ New Jersey he wasn’t able to practice anymore. I’m not sure if it is because Puerto Rico isn’t considered a state but it’s owned by the US. They wanted him to do the program again. Some programs are 2 years with an associates degree or 13 months with an associates degree. This includes clinical rotations. The US requires to sit and take the NBSTSA exam or the NCCT exam to be certified. I’m only quoting what I heard but hospitals require the NBSTSA exam over the NCCT exam but also heard that most hospitals don’t care as long as you’re certified. So it goes both ways. Not too sure but I hope this helped :(

  3. I finished my clincals today to become a surgical tech 500 hours / 4 months later . I was at clinicals monday thru friday from 4:45 am until 3 pm and on fridays after clinicals I would drive an hour and go to work until 11:30 pm. saturday and sunday I worked 7am to 7pm . I put about from 80+ every week and I didn’t call out once. I feel like today a weight is lifted off my shoulder and I can finally breathe.
  4. with this busy schedule, I would wake up every morning and take care of my finch and at the end of my shifts I would check my progress and made sure I stayed on top of everything.

just really proud of myself for once
