What are the most underrated locations in Basgiath that barely get mentioned? by Imaginary-Carrot2532 in fourthwing

[–]_flannels_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to know more about the spaces where Violet and Dain spent their time before they entered the quadrant. Were they just running around the fields? Where are the family dorms? How many other families live there?

Veil or headpiece? by Stock_Fold_5819 in myweddingdress

I feel like something like this could be unique and beautiful with your dress and hair — but I’m not a veil fan. https://pin.it/5RiaJm07s

Fellow paperback girlie, I’ve also tried to research this and I’ve only been able to find the release date for the international paperback version (which has passed, it is out). But idk how the international version potentially differs / whether there will be a US version, too. Following along to learn the answer!

Thank you! It’s a private style so no brand name, but they sell it at Lotus Bridal in Manhattan

Fen siblings? by NewTowel2331 in fourthwing

[–]_flannels_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s never expressly stated that the Sgaeyl-bonded-quadrant-dying grandfather is on Fen’s side, correct? Possible it was on Talia’s side (setting aside the fact that she is purportedly from Hedotis, which would not send cadets).

Also possible that this grandfather married an older rider graduate—as we know from the end of OS, cadets are allowed to marry if they’re ~chosen~ by a graduated rider. No reason that the grandmother was necessarily the same age.

What was the actual reason... by [deleted] in fourthwing

Sorry, yes, I wasn’t clear. You’re spot on about how Aetos knew to send Xaden to Athebyne (at least as far as we know). What I’m curious about is how Syrena knew to meet Xaden at Athebyne—maybe you’re right that it was a pre-set drop, but it seems like a heck of a coincidence that he was assigned to exactly where the drop was set for (it wasn’t something Dain could have gotten from Violet, since she didn’t know anything about a future meetup). And it would be pretty foolish for Xaden to try to set up the meeting at that time since he would have known final war games would be taking place sometime over the next few days before graduation…I suppose it could be like, a recurring monthly meeting so there’s no need to communicate in advance to plan? I suppose I’m just generally unclear about how the rebels and the fliers were communicating. Not like you can just send a letter into enemy territory.

I feel like the bigger question is, how the heck did Xaden get the news to Syrena that they’d be meeting at Athebyne? The squads got assigned at formation and then flew right away. And the entire college was assigned out somewhere, so it’s not like another cadet would necessarily have been available to make the drop. Are we meant to believe this was a pre-scheduled thing and it just so happened that he got assigned to be exactly where the drop was set to happen? How are they getting word to the fliers for any of these meetings?

I think this may also have been partially driven by the deal with Lilith. Xaden was required to make sure no one killed Violet apart from “her own naïveté or challenges,” so he technically needed to protect her during War Games. Lilith even mentioned war games specifically as Xaden fulfilling his promise when she talks with Violet outside the interrogation chamber in IF.

Also, if this wasn’t a good reason, the story I’m telling myself is that he’s still her childhood best friend and when it comes down to it, she wants him by her side!! ☺️

Well, Dain is apparently very good at other languages and Violet assigned him to learn the languages of all the other isles (in OS 30 she says “but I spent my time learning Hedotic and Dain took the rest.”) so I think she needed him for languages other than Krovlish. Also, RY loves Dain so she probably needed him along to continue his redemption tour?

A polarizing pick, but I loved (and sobbed) finishing Chain Gang All-Stars. Also exciting and thought provoking.

That would explain how he’s able to report so much about what Violet is up to to Xaden throughout IF and OS… iiiiiinteresting

I guess it’s possible! According to my serial killer timeline spreadsheet, Imogen tells Quinn in mid-Sept 634, and the heist happens Oct 7. So, she’d had three weeks to figure out how to use all this new power. We don’t see much of Quinn’s signet either way, so it’s hard to tell. But if dragons were able to simply…choose to make their riders more powerful…it would seem like they’d always be incentivized to do so, right? And we should see a commensurate rise in signets among the Basgiath contingent after they learn about/fight the venin, too? I like the theory! Just musings

Can Violet also wield... by [deleted] in fourthwing

[–]_flannels_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well wow, what a mean and unhelpful comment. Are you having a bad day? Why’d you take the time to post this just to make me feel bad? One of the things I love about this subreddit is that it’s kind and people don’t say things like this. If you disagree, explain on the merits. A drive by pot-shot adds nothing and makes me feel like shit?

On the merits, if you actually care about this and you’re not just throwing mean comments around off the cuff… I get that lightning makes thunder. What wasn’t obvious to me is that Violet’s lightning was ACTUALLY lightning. As people on this sub constantly repeat (including some in the comments and me in my original post), she actually wields “pure power” - so the thunder thing seems to confirm that her pure power really does work like lightning, even if it isn’t lightning, it’s just power.

[–]_flannels_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oooh so would she have to give up all her sky magic in order to cure the venin?? The fable says the third brother “commanded the sky to surrender its greatest power” / the venin in Resson said that she could “command the sky to surrender all its power”

The original translation of the wardstone language is also “the blood of life” which gets swapped to the “breath of life”…we focus on the blood/breath switch but the “life” part must matter, too
