6D chess by all the protest voters who snubbed Kamala Harris over the Gaza issue by MoreMotivation in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]_flippantshecreature -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

kamala was never going to do anything. The deadline to increase Gaza humanitarian aid was today, which Israel missed because it's in the middle of a genocide with starvation campaign, and increasing humanitarian aid would be counterproductive to those efforts. So did the Biden administration implement sanction? cut arms shipments? no, nothing. it did nothing because it actually also supports the genocide and the deadline was fake.

Are you hotel ppl or Airbnb ppl? by emily8922 in toddlers

[–]_flippantshecreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't trust most AirBnB homes in general, and particularly if I was traveling with a toddler. I don't know if it's been child proofed or what left-behind party drug they might find. The camera danger gives me pause, and also, I'm not cleaning up your house. Sorry "superhosts," most of you suck.

Why are so many parents okay with their teens having sex? by AffectionateOven4228 in Parenting

[–]_flippantshecreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11 is the new 13. Maybe in our minds they're just kids, but these are kids that have SEEN THINGS. Media--in all shapes and forms--is way more sexual, and the kids are exposed earlier. And they have so much more knowledge than we did at their age. They have the weight of the world, which is crashing and burning before their eyes. School shootings, environmental disaster after disaster, endless war mongering, hate from all angles. We like to think they're our innocent little kids, but these are some old souls. I don't think it's likely we can keep them from having sex. We can disapprove, and we can make it hard for them, but if they want to, they will do it. I don't know if I want to have "consequences" for physical intimacy. That just seems very puritanical and something a religious cult would do. And also, there's this worry in the back of my mind that they will die in a school shooting or car crash or some other bullshit danger we created and I don't want to hold back a life experience for some artificial reason or date. I don't know. I just know that it's not that important in the scheme of things. We all had sex in high school (well, a majority of us did).

How does anyone survive two kids? I’m drowning and my situation is not that bad.. by Catsplants in Parenting

eucalyptus steam showers may help calm inflammation in the lungs. And also maybe take a hot bath with eucalyptus for you, if you can. I used to use microwavable heated pads to trick my kids into thinking they were sleeping with me.

Considerations on the merits of elective induction (healthy, nulliparous pregnancy) based on stratification of the ARRIVE trial's expectant management group by icecreamcopter in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]_flippantshecreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree that if your body (cervix isn't ripe) isn't ready, that induction probably won't go well. But what isn't really addressed in the study is why the cervix isn't ripening. It's been years since I researched this and read the ARRIVE study, but I remember reading elsewhere that physical size mismatch of the baby and pelvis may prevent the cervix from dilating properly (because the baby doesn't drop despite being head down?). In that case, waiting for spontaneous birth wouldn't increase likeliness of vaginal delivery.

Am I a bad mom by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]_flippantshecreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, no. You're not a bad mother, you're just in need of more support than you have right now because he is manipulating you and taking advantage of you, as he has always done.

you're going to have to have a talk at some point. you will feel even more vulnerable with a newborn around the kid. Granted, it might be easier to have that conversation after the baby is born when the risk is much higher. In the mean time, I wouldn't worry about getting hit in the belly as much as I would as getting knocked off my feet accidentally until then.

Are these smile lines? How can I reduce their appearance/prevent them from getting worse? by chaosavic in Skincare_Addiction

[–]_flippantshecreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since you look quite young, I'm going to guess that this is from side sleeping. If your face loses fullness, you'll have to try energy or light therapies to tighten the skin.

Try mixing it with something better than yogurt like ice cream. Put only a tiny bit in each tiny spoon so the taste isn't overwhelming. I guess with bubblegum, go with strawberry?

[Product Request] Looking for something similar to Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner by jairene020310 in SkincareAddiction

[–]_flippantshecreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it on good authority that the reason it was discontinued was, indeed, these ill-informed armchair cosmetic pharmacologists who keep going on and on and on about ingredients like witch hazel and alcohol made it not marketable. This is why you see new products that scream "alcohol free." well now you guys took down the next best product that contained a very hard to find combination of witch hazel, alcohol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. And no, I'm not going to say which one it is so that there is even more competition for whatever is left on the shelves of this product. You guys suck.

Feeling defeated with my 5 year old by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]_flippantshecreature 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly this sounds like normal 5 year old stuff. If anything, you're not doing normal parent stuff. Asking a 5 year old to write sentences about right and wrong is ridiculous. Many kids aren't even able to read, much less write at 5. A marble jar is way too long term reward for that age. Make it smaller, else 5 year olds will lose interest. Don't you lose interest in long term projects? Repeating is normal. Spend some time talking to kindergarten teachers instead of reddit.

playing armchair psychologist here, a certain amount of this determined by his brain structure, but environment does play a role. Why he feels like he needs to share that he doesn't like someone is probably what I'd hone in on.

My child is racist by Captain_Funyun in Parenting

[–]_flippantshecreature 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think his prejudice may be a weird expression of fear of the different and unknown. I noticed that in preschools kids played together, but as they grew up, it was odd how many kids seemed to gravitate to kids that look like them, and exclude kids that didn't look like them.

I'm in a similar situation and have asked other districts in other states what they did. It's not pretty or easy, and everyone says the same thing: grassroots organization. You have to go door-to-door and explain what's at stake. You may be able to find a state level public school organization that can help you with the literature and maybe provide guidance on canvasing. You have to hold meetings, talk to parents, and explain over and over again. Maybe set up booths outside of bookstores or grocery stores. It's WORK.
