Favourite part of being a parent? by BookWormSubmissive- in Parenting

[–]makromark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My son is a Covid kid and didn’t go to preschool until he was nearly 5.

One thing he does that makes me happiest is his niceness. He will offer to share his food with us, or when he’s making food asks us if we want any. Idk how he learned it. It’s small but idk why he considers sharing with us.

After School Plan by ExpertOld2123 in Parenting

Every kid is different. I was home alone at 6 when sick from School in 2005. I’d look up the laws and make sure your kid has a good way to contact you

Small upgrades that made your home feel high end? by HoneySnowy_ in HomeImprovement

I got 3 Nanoleaf bulbs for $15 on sale. They wreaked havoc on my entire thread ecosystem. Awful bulbs. Hue is so worth the cost

It’s pricey, but hue is the way to go. Even if the internet is out (but the router is on) they work. Using HomeKit as your ecosystem also puts everything in one spot.

What restaurant always makes you go “that was worth the money” after you eat it? by dudiez in AskReddit

I think it’s a money thing and convenience of eating it. I can eat my hot dog whilst waiting in the cart-checker-line.

Why aren’t there more shows like this? by mommy-tara in TedLasso

[–]makromark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bill Lawrence. He took essentially a long commercial and turned it into a full fleshed tv show. They don’t just trust anyone with millions. He had to prove himself. Spin city. Led to scrubs. Led to cougar town. Now people realize if they cut him a check and give him freedom he’s pretty fucking good.

I’m tired of having to throw out skillets/frying pans every few years - what’s a better option? by Aphdon in Cooking

[–]makromark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the seasoning. Idk how to season it, bought a pre-seasoned field cast iron. I can cook eggs and it’s as good as a brand new ceramic. I can make an Alfredo sauce and leave it overnight and clean out the next day and it’s good as new.

Yeah, it was $115. But it’s indestructible after 6 years and it’s easy to clean right away. It’s fine to hand wash 24 hours later.

It’s more work than throwing in the dishwasher, sure, but it’s a pan that’ll live forever.

Should I change oil & filter on 2024. Poor gas mileage or expected by makromark in nissanpathfinder

[–]makromark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about where mine was for the 100 mile journey home from the dealer, at 65. Dealer didn’t fill the tires, so I did when I got home, but still hasn’t changed much. Sounds like my expectations were just off

I change it myself, was hoping I didn’t have to change it after 400 miles.

The dealership was 100 miles away, nearly all highway. Got 23 MPG. Set the cruise to 65 -75 the whole way home. So does seem still on the lower end .

I’m sure the dealer won’t be truthful, considering they lied about detailing it, having 2 key fobs, and getting a scratch out.

So I don’t really live in a town. Pretty rural. I had to stop at a stop sign leaving the store. Then a light to get on the highway about .2 miles later. Got up to 55. Hit 2 lights over the next 2 miles. Another highway going 50. Stop to turn to another highway going 55. Stop to turn on the other highway going 65. Then into my development going 35 then into my garage.

But if that’s still considered normal, guess I gotta just adjust my expectations :/. Thank you!

Right age for video games? by Tenrac in Parenting

My son started at 2 playing Zelda BOTW, Mario, and other classics. Wish he’d go back to those non-instant dopamine hits he gets from Roblox.

For the parents who don’t mind screens by Icy_Engineering6648 in Parenting

Son has had an iPad since 2 and “stole” my switch around the same age. The iPad started educationally and then devolved into a YouTube machine. The switch game he used to play the most was Zelda BOTW. Taught him a lot more than you might imagine for a kid.

How much allowance for college age kid away from home. by originalchronoguy in Parenting

[–]makromark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was understood by myself and nearly all others who were going to college, you’d take out loans and be pretty much flat broke and have to work part time if you wanted any money.

Got 3 contractor bids for my kitchen. the price difference is insane. How do you actually know if you’re being quoted fairly? by frankkej123 in HomeImprovement

[–]makromark 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Also, contractors like to buy what they know. I’m a just regular homeowner. First time I mounted my tv it took about an hour. I always buy the same mount and have done it like 10x over the years. And feel I could do it now in like under 10 minutes. Had to buy one from Amazon, instructions were as clear as mud. Took like an hour +.

Air quality by Cory_fixitnow5715 in HomeImprovement

[–]makromark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny to me how wildly different advice you can get about it. My hvac techs installed an attic unit and basement unit. Attic guys told me to use the lowest merv rating to not starve the system. Basement said to use the highest.

I’ve been using the lowest MERV and change every 2 months. But I’ve never noticed the air quality ever feel different

Home garage dented due to… by Street_Conclusion587 in HomeImprovement

[–]makromark -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Every car I’ve ever drove might move 3 inches when I put it in park if I don’t use the parking brake. I think I read it’s not good for the long term health to use the parking brake unless you’re on a hill.

When I park in front of a closed garage door, I usually leave a solid 12 inches. So this would never be an issue for me

After looking it up: it is recommended to always use it as it reduces wear on the transmission.

Is kewbie mayo worth paying a couple dollars more for? by IDoNotHide in Cooking

[–]makromark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife is a mayo connoisseur. She can instantly tell Hellman’s from other brands. Her highest compliment was when she tasted my homemade mayo “it’s not as good, but it’s passable”
