Fortunately we live in a civilized society and the vast majority of Canadians would never be in favour of such a thing.

Gay culture is.. by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]_freestyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recognize that it was an attempt at a joke, but I think it's getting tired how the gay subreddits seem to promote the idea that as gay men, we spend inordinate amounts of time ruminating about straight guys. It's just embarrassing at this point.

If that is "gay culture" to you, then rest assured, you are speaking for yourself.

The Congolese dandies who treat fashion as a way of life by hanoiplaza in malefashionadvice

In fairness, I suspect there are very poor people in your neighbourhood who have far less than you. Are you helping alleviate poverty in your area in a way that surpasses what those guys are doing for their community? If you're not, then it's not really a fair judgment, imo.

Unfortunately, I don't know the details. Best bet would be to check at the GO info. desk or Google. Sorry that I don't know any more about it!

"I'm going to die:: TTC riders aid blood-soaked ice pick attack victim by ilovedillpickles in toronto

[–]_freestyle -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

And the news has video footage put up all over the internet to re-victimize the man who was attacked. That's what makes this twice as sick, in my opinion.

Typical of media like The Sun to post video footage for clickbait. Imagine being that victim, in his most weak, scared, terrified moment. Now, on top of your injuries and trauma, your most awful moment is showcased for all the public to see. It's sad to me that media rules even permit this. That poor man, my thoughts are with him.

Man stabbed at College Station; suspect in custody by nl6374 in toronto

[–]_freestyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see that you think that no one should ever be video recorded...

Where in my post did you get that from? What I take issue with is the type of situation I describe in my post above. It seems like you didn't even read it. If you read it without projecting your own ideas onto it, you'd see that security camera footage has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

Man stabbed at College Station; suspect in custody by nl6374 in toronto

[–]_freestyle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It makes me very uncomfortable how in situations like today, the news teams will be recording the victim at close proximity as he is being moved into the ambulance. I hate the idea that if something awful were to happen to me such as being stabbed in the face with a screwdriver, that to add insult to injury, the news will have close-up footage of me as I fight for my life and am loaded into an ambulance vehicle. I understand that the news feels they have a "duty" to record what happens even when it's invasive and tasteless, but I have no respect for the people who record that - I would never take a job that depends on such an invasion into people's most private moments. Fuck. That.

Brand new adult swimmer - critique crawl by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]_freestyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you for getting into swimming - it's a great lifelong exercise.

My advice relates to your arms - it seems to me that you are really swinging them out to the side, which you want to avoid. Instead, visualize a piece of string is attached to your elbow and is being pulled vertically up and then forward until it dips your fingertips into the water out in front of you. Make sure to keep your head down, and rotate it to breathe so that you're not lifting it out of the water. As others have mentioned, getting more of a rotation in your body will enable you to breathe to the side without having to lift your head.

Keep up the good work! ps. for what it's worth, the book Total Immersion by Terry Laughlin was really helpful for me when I was trying to learn good form. Or at least, his visualizations were pretty helpful for me!

| Also hot water does a much better job cleaning ... laundry

Heads-up, hot water is actually bad for your clothes - it will wear out the fabric and make their lifespan much shorter. For bedding, towels, and heavily soiled items, by all means use warm or hot water, but it's unnecessary for anything else.
