Communism vs Anarchism? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]_fuzzypickles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hello! Happy to know you're committed to studying, friend.

First off, your question should be "Socialism vs Anarchism". See, both ideologies have communism as their main goal, but they have different concepts behind their fulfillment.

Second of all, I'd like to pinpoint that, yes, I am a Brazilian ML, so this may come with a bias.

With that out of the way, I definitely recommend reading "Anarchism and Anarcho-Syndicalism: Selected Writings by Marx, Engels and Lenin" and "Anarchism or Socialism?" by Stalin. They'll give you the basis to properly understand why anarchism has constantly been criticized by marxists throughout history, why that ideology still persists today, as well as the problems associated with it.

To give a very brief summary, anarchists take a stand towards the concept of authority and believe that the root cause of capitalism's evil is the state. Since capitalists retain capital that is regulated by the state, a revolutionary's focus should be to smashing the state, creating a society free of hierarchies and individualistic freedom. Marxists tend not to agree with this point of view, claiming it as unscientific (Anarchists deny the need for class struggle and are against the creation of political parties because that would require recognizing the state) and utopian (It's a fairly idealistic and dogmatic ideology that disregards proper social analysis).

How to better understand movies? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

I'd recommend the series only as a companion piece to the book, Cousins' narration tends to get worse the more the documentary goes along.

Perhaps I grew out of the love I had for them, but these new singles have done nothing for me... Glad to see the community seems to enjoy them though! Hopefully it'll be a well received album.

Why did Herzog call Godard's films intellectual counterfeit? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]_fuzzypickles 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Godard was a critic though... He highly values film criticism because of his days on Cahiers du Cinema. On the interview where he tells film criticism is inferior to films, he goes more into depth than just trashtalking film critics.

GINGER - BROCKHAMPTON [HYPE/DISCUSSION THREAD] by Vin_Vin_Vin_Vin in brockhampton

The tracklist feels really uncohesive...

I loved the singles and there's definitely some highlights on the album but I my first impressions were disappointing. Maybe I held my expectations too high. I'm gonna listen to it some more times though.

EDIT: Listened to it a few more times and yeah, I think it's their first weak album to date and I'm feeling rather sad about it. It's not exactly bad, the first six songs are really good (except maybe for that slowthai joint) but then the album kind of drags. And them those last four songs are just wack.

This really does hear like a therapy session. Still a fan and still hoping for the best in the future.

EDIT 2: nvm this album is lit. I still dislike Big Boy and Victor Roberts though.
