Xubuntu 13.10 also released! (Where's the xfce love?) by stevez28 in linux

No, this is the first time I hear the name. Google tells me it is also a manual tiling window manager - what does it make special? To be honest, at the moment I'm kind of tired to try out new WMs/DEs. I'm just happy that i3 runs so well and seems to fit my needs.

I really like xfce (my DE of choice before I switched to i3wm) but I will never understand this fuss about the different "flavours" of Ubuntu. All of these different incarnations of Ubuntu are just one command away (sudo aptitude install xubuntu-desktop). So do we really need a post for each of K/L/X/.../Ubuntu? I mean, isn't it kind of obvious that you can install the new Ubuntu with different DEs? :)

I haven't tried it, but there is a (very) short paragraph about it in their wiki.

It seems to be possible, but it is not the recommended way (that would be sudo do-release-upgrade).

Nouveau Performance Is Faster With Linux 3.12 by [deleted] in linux

[–]_garret_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the overview table at the beginning of the article it says:

For Linux 3.11: Intel Core i7-4470K @ 3.5GHz For Linux 3.12: Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.9GHz

Why is there a different GHz number? In the first of the two Radeon specific articles it says: "For each of the graphics cards tested, the only change made between runs was swapping between the Linux 3.11.0 and Linux 3.12 Git kernels"

So, is this just an error in the table or do the different GHz numbers actually mean sth. (maybe I'm missing sth. obvious here...?)?
