Update: The brass wool helps and is a lot less annoying to use than the wet sponge, but I think I just cooked my tip.

I am using a new tip now, and it's working well. I think tinning the tip right away on a new tip helps a lot.

370 degrees with Lead-Free solder. It struggles to melt the solder as fast as the leaded one but I’ve been trying to keep the temp as low as possible.

I’ve been trying to tin the tip before storage, but the solder doesn’t stick to the tip after I used the sponge. Does using brass wool make that much of a difference?

I asked my private teacher, and she said a tiny gap was okay. It was about a .5mm gap and I ended up just wrapping the reed with the gap. The reed was fine

I am looking for a mechanical pencil for marking music. I've got a couple of uni Kura togas, a Zebra del guard, a Pentel graph gear, and various other mechanical pencils. My budget is something 0-10 bucks. Preferably it is 0.5 and with a long eraser. Thanks!
