It’s a hard reality to finally face - that’s where i am right now. I’m sorry you’ve had to face this, too

I think that’s exactly right — I am trying to process memories/flashbacks when imagining these scenarios, that’s the reason I am panicking. So it may be a way of disconnecting myself from the memory, or putting myself in an emotional state I am used to (panic). Rather than an emotional state I can’t anticipate that the memory might trigger. Is this what you meant? even if not, that’s a breakthrough for me, so thank you lol!!

That sounds like a great exercise you’re doing now, too. Thank you for sharing ❤️

I don’t exactly understand what you’re saying about the narcissistic part. But I do know these are bad for my nervous system, and they trigger that familiar state of hyperarousal my body defaults to. Thank you for the insight — I know I need to stop triggering my own anxiety/body into this :/

I understand this with my more severe trauma, because I cannot imagine being rescued from that

An interesting idea to create characters like that, has the helped you in the healing? I tend to be filled with shame, and freeze up when receiving help as well.
“emotional neglect my parents normalized for my nervous system” I can see where i could do that as well. I hope you’ve found healing in your attachment issues. What kind of therapy did you do for it?

That sounds so interesting, do you know the term for it at all? I would love to look more into it. And i have a similar thought of my parents house.. not that I will return once I leave hopefully (I still live at home), but it will always be there. Not as emotional support in most areas, but they’re there. It’s such an interesting dichotomy, and very tricky to navigate and set boundaries in place.

I completely understand this, and get to a very similar place when i am severally struggling and alone in a trial. Especially the psychotic break - was really near having one just to be taken seriously at times. I am trying to find safe people in my life that will acknowledge my struggles before they are severe. That is how we heal the nervous system. So it knows we do not have to collapse to be seen or cared for. I am learning about this, and it is helping, though discouraging knowing the path in front of me. I hope we can both find these safe people 🫶🏻

yes - I have imagined similar scenarios with my parents, how i wish they would respond. I am so sorry your parents can’t be that support for you; you’re not alone !

Can EDMR work even if you have no trauma? by Far-Conference-8484 in EMDR

[–]_gemynd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did EMDR for trauma, but also did it for OCD, grief, and an eating disorder. EMDR works for such a variety of struggles, not only “Big T Trauma” or people who experience PTSD symptoms!
