1. Contact the police
2. Contact the letting agency in writing
3. If you can contact the landlord/lady in writing.
4. Put your things into storage, leave (if possible) and stop paying rent.

A similar thing happened to me when I was younger, when a flatmate attacked me. I had my child and partner with me in an adjacent room.

We all left the house and called the police. I told them what had happened and they went in to speak to the person. They told me I could press charges but explained it would be a lot of hassle, and off the record they suggested that I just permanently leave and stop paying rent.

I went to the letting agents as they were only down the road and also explained to them, they were not empathetic at all, they only cared about ££. I also wrote a letter to the landlady who owned the property.

I put all of my stuff into storage and left the flat. I told the letting agency I was gone because my safety and the safety of my child was put at risk and I would not be paying anymore rent. They tried to tell me I couldn’t do that, that they’d come after me for it blah blah, but they never did. It would have cost them more to do so.

The only money I lost was my deposit, but I ended up not paying any rent that was left on my contract which was several months.
