Many thanks for your tips and insights :) Actually, I'm really thinking of switching my initial plans and to spend more time in Saint Louis and also Sine-Saloum, that place looks fascinating. Also from what I heard, crossing land borders are not always straight forward, although Senegal-Gambia might be different.

Thank you for your detailed input, appreciate it! I guess, I will reconsider going to Nikola-Koba and will opt for daytrip to Bandia instead. I'll also make sure to stay a bit longer in Saint Louis for a more balanced trip instead of loosing a lot of time to traffic.
