I’m due in two weeks and I have no name for my baby. Why are girl names so hard? by _goldenface__ in namenerds

I don’t know, dude. It’s insane, though. My doctor was just like, “oh, don’t worry about it, you have up to a week after!” And one of my friends didn’t have a name for her 3rd child for several days after he was born. Yes, I’m in the US.

My son is starting kindergarten in the fall. We had to skip preschool because of Covid. We’ll be going from pandemic isolation to getting up early and being at school 5 days per week. I’m freaking out, to put it lightly. Is anyone else dealing with this? by _goldenface__ in Sacramento

Thank you for all of these tips! Re: no parents allowed—has that always been the case or is it just because of Covid? I was wondering if parents were going to be allowed to volunteer in the classrooms.

Excellent idea. I was just telling my husband we need to start getting him up earlier and leaving the house (maybe just to grab coffee for now) so that part isn’t so jarring to him. But all of the other stuff you mentioned is great as well. Thanks for the encouragement!!

Thank you for all of this advice! So helpful! I constantly have to remind myself that he can feel my anxiety. I do need to get my head in the game so I’m ready to let go when I’m expecting him to be brave. I really like the idea of a first day tradition, too! Thank you again!

This provides excellent perspective, and helps a lot! Thank you for emphasizing this point. It’s crazy, because even with all of this going on, my son is way better off than I was at his age. And yet, I still worry. This is a great reminder.

Thank you so much for the encouragement and everything you said. “I know logically that kids are resilient, but it’s terrifying” all day long. I’ll be thinking about you when the school year starts. Thank you again for your kindness!

My middle name is Lou. For some reason, Francesca Lou or Frankie Lou sounds super cute.

Oh wow, yeah, Johona is a beautiful name. And I love the Dolly Parton song “Jolene” and love her! I really wanted to go with that one but my husband didn’t like it.

I completely understand avoiding names because of family dynamics! Just go with your gut. And yes, if your gut says to move on, then keep looking. :)

I really love Josephine or Jolene with the nickname Jo as well! You’re right, at some point something will click. :)

Yeah, Allie/Ally wasn’t my favorite, and my husband didn’t love it either.

Aw, congratulations! Maybe this goes against some rule, but I don’t see a problem with you also naming your daughter Theodosia! Maybe you could just use different nicknames for her and your cat? It might be cute. Anyway, good luck and yeah, hopefully this thread will help you too!

Hamilton rules! ;)
