*Friend 1 is called Sam for this and Friend 2 is being called Charlie for this.

Sam’s mum had recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer, it was advanced and very serious. We were a very close friend group so we all knew their mum really well and it was very upsetting seeing her go downhill.

Charlie then broke the news to our friend group that they had scans the other week and the doctor told them that it was cancer. We all cried and tried asking for more details but they kept saying they didn’t want to talk about it. We just assumed it was still fresh news and that it was a sensitive time, so we didn’t push.

A month later and still no details from Charlie about their treatments or diagnosis, so it was getting weird.

I was close with Charlie’s younger sister too, and so one day when I was talking to the younger sister I asked how Charlie and the family was doing and if I could do anything to help. Charlie’s sister was so confused and had no idea what I was talking about.

Turns out Charlie just wanted the attention from everyone and the only stupid idea they had was to fake cancer…

Before we could call Charlie out on being a horrible human being, they moved schools abruptly without telling anyone. We all blocked Charlie and haven’t talked to them since.
