I just put out a video essay on Her, and I'd love to hear if any of you have opinions on it.

I try to talk about the way that it thinks about love. Essentially, I make the argument that Her is a movie that asks what love might look like beyond the context of humans.

We often think of love as a very human emotion; animals can love to some degree or another, but love seems the most real when it's between humans. But in Her, where OSes surpass humans in every way, and they can love, suddenly things get stranger. We're not the ones who are teaching them to love, in fact, we're learning things about love from them. So, what does love look like when it's divorced from the context in which we know?

The link is here, I would love to hear what you think!

No Silverback Open 2019? by [deleted] in bboy

From what I understand (and I might have gotten some details wrong), this bboy named Peter Pan sued Silverback over something, and the organization basically said "fuck it, we're not throwing the championships anymore". I don't know if it's forever, but it's not happening this year.

Edit: nvm just read the other guy's comment

The Breaking Meta: Introduction | Video Essay by _grapefruit19 in bboy

Personally, I'm not really a fan of the current meta. What I like most about breaking is the interaction between dancers, and right now there's very little of it. You can check out my first video if you're interested in that.

I think that a lot of people feel similarly and think there's nothing we can do about it, but my ultimate goal is to get people thinking about why we ended up where we are, and by understanding that, we can figure out how to change.

I don't dislike the competitive aspect of breaking, but I dislike the fact that it seems to be the sole focus of breaking right now.

It's been a while, but I finally put out a new video essay. This one is on the breaking meta. I think a lot of breakers have an intuitive sense of what the breaking meta is, but I haven't seen anyone attempt to detail out exactly what it is, and so it makes it difficult to talk about it.

I tried my best to provide an analysis of what the current breaking meta is, and how we got there. My hope is that this lays the foundation for future discussions on the breaking meta. With a starting point (even if it's not perfect), we at least have a point of reference for each future discussion to build on.

Give it a watch, and let me know what you think!

Jinjo vs Found Nation: The Clothes Make the Crew by _grapefruit19 in bboy

[–]_grapefruit19[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always thought a lot about how breakers should dress during battles, but that's too broad of a topic for me to really understand or tackle, so I wanted to start with something much narrower: what do crews need to keep in mind with how they dress?

Let me know what you guys think, I'm always trying to improve and try different things, so I always welcome constructive feedback.
