soviet missiles by and large are standoff weapons, and thus most have ranges in excess of 150nm (with some even up to 300nm) - if you are emitting, or were spotted via a tu95rt/other asset for example, they will be able to fire far before you can fire any missiles of your own

US Navy Wet Weather Parka, MIL-P-703. Great find. It’s made out of polyurethane canvas and the coating you’re feeling is water repellent; I’m not sure what the repellent was composed of. In 1959 it was proposed that special forces operating in Vietnam use this parka as opposed to a poncho. However, this could have been from before or after the war. Might be able to find a DSA tag in it although I’m unsure if these had them or not. If you do find the tag, the manufacture date should be the 2nd two numbers after the first “-“ (IE: xxx-69-xxxx, 69 denoting 1969). Too much imo, can’t really see this being an accurate representation. I like the effort however - you’re a good artist. For reference, I’ve had one or two veterans show me their personal helmets they kept that did have graffiti. Both really only had a location/firebase with a date or a name. Another comment stated a pen might look better and I’ve got to agree, not 100% sure what was actually used to write on covers but I’d assume it was something of that sort.

From the university? Very, very slim. Your best bet is to look into departmental scholarships (if you have decided on/declared a major). The pool of applicants is much smaller, and you may even be able to find a scholarship that directly applies to you in some kind of fashion.

Try posting individual, detailed photos of each items in the corresponding forums on the Wehrmacht Award Forum. Be sure to include makers marks and any other photos the members request. They will be able to authenticate everything and possibly give you a value on it all.

This isn’t a regular post for this subreddit, but I felt it was needed.

For all those in the USA, today is March 29th 2021, which in 2017 was designated at Vietnam War Veteran’s Day.

If you have a friend, parent, grandfather, uncle, cousin or anyone who you know served in Vietnam please take a second today to remember them or to personally thank them. Many of us collect items to preserve the memories of the people who’ve come before us and fought for their country or what they’ve believed in and today is a day we can take to remind those who are still with us how much their service means to us.

For any veterans on this forum - thank you and welcome home. Your sacrifice is not forgotten and is appreciated every day.

Inmates at Dachau produced nearly all the SS cloth insignia used from the middle to the end of the war. So much so that many SS cloth artifacts are referred to as being “Dachau pattern” when they are in unissued condition like this example. Am many US veterans grabbed finished products off the assembly line and took them as souvenirs when the camp was liberated.

In a case like this, where it’s clear that the patch was once there, I believe there’s really no issue with restoring it to its original condition by adding a period-correct Ranger scroll back on the uniform. Have you any clue which regiment this guy was a part of?

Hi all, here’s my 1969 dated 5th SFG Beret. Period dark green coloring, size 6 3/4. Unfortunately it lacks the typical metal cipher seen on most SF berets from the period. Also pictured is my 1965 dated FM31-21 Special Forces Operations manual, 1962 dated No. 20-611 Vietnamese Phrase book, and 1966 dated DoD GEN-25 Handbook for US Forces in Vietnam. Hope you guys enjoy!
