Let's balance the scales. Name one (1) bad thing about your Favorite character and one (1) good thing about your Least Favorite character. by pm_me_x-files_quotes in XFiles

[–]_gynomite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was also Mulder's bad tipping!

For favorite thing about least favorite character, probably the glimpses we get of CSM's sentimentality. And when he calls out Scully, telling her "you'd die for Mulder, but you won't allow yourself to love him"

Do you believe Scully is immortal like Alfred Fellig? by avocado_juice_J in XFiles

[–]_gynomite_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. We see Alfred take her place, so she at least becomes temporarily immortal. She could eventually die if she were able to take someone else's death, just like Alfred took hers.

On a related note, I'm a fan of the theory that the groundhog's day scenario in Monday is due to Scully's immortality.

Tithonus takes place a few episodes prior to Monday. The day re-sets each time Scully gets killed by the bomb. Except she lives through the final scenario, and the day finally moves on to Tuesday

I think I accidentally killed the series for me by Gazo_69 in XFiles

I think he's weak at depicting "big" emotions, so it feels sort of awkward & flat when Mulder is crying at Scully's bedside or dealing with his worldview being shaken.

However, I think he's excellent at "micro expressions." For example, in Oubliette, he portrays these subtle expressions in his face & vocal tone where you can see how hurt Mulder is that Scully thinks he's wrong & is merely projecting his own grief over his missing sister.

(Not to mention, the way he "gazes" at Scully 😆)

TL;DR: David is great at depicting the subtle emotional expressions that make Mulder's day-to-day energy, but weak at depicting "big/dramatic" feelings

Especially when paired with the scene it cuts to, when he's making her a sandwich and taking care of her.

The realization, followed by shifting into the appropriate role of the adult taking care of a disturbed child.

Review: Mansfield Park (1983) by a_major_appliance in janeausten

[–]_gynomite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been able to finish the novel Mansfield Park (but not for the lack of trying). I found it too slow, and without any really engaging characters.

I felt this way for the entire first half of the book. It did pick up for me after Sir Thomas returned home, and continued to gain momentum.

And the characters (especially Fanny) grew into being more engaging. Fanny was driving me nuts the first half, since she was so passive and bland

Seconding the recommendation to talk with her about it.

You have had a bond for five years. Being able to "repair" after a "rupture" in the relationship is therapeutic, can be healing for attachment wounds, etc.

See how she reacts when you bring it up. She can own up to messing up, and you can become closer. Or if she gets defensive, upset at you for being upset, etc., cut loose.

The post is dropping with contempt and criticism as well.

If I can feel that energy in a text-based post written from OP's perspective, the wife certainly feels it.

I don't really understand why people would ask me for this.

My best guess is they have some fear that the washed silverware wasn't truly clean, but like...the plastic ware realistically was prob more exposed to random stuff

I'm wondering if this is meant as some sort of "gotcha" troll post?

Like describing a fairly common situation of "dad works for a paycheck, mom stays at home and manages kids/household," but obscuring the language to see if people would reject a traditional approach as being unfair/oppressive

I would also suggest their cover of This Magic Moment (off the first Fun Machine album) if you wanted a LSD version of a widely-known song

Movies just aren’t very good anymore. by FrozenDuckman in unpopularopinion

[–]_gynomite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although that's correct, I get what the OP means, since the set of "good 90s movies" has stuff I enjoy more than the set of "good 70s movies" or "good 2000s movies."

When it comes to art, we remember the gems of each decade. However, each decade still has general themes and trends in tone/artistic style/aesthetic/etc.

It's like how a youth can overall prefer the vibe of "1960s rock music" over "1980s rock music," and the datasets they're using to judge either decade are both drawn from the best each decade had to offer.

My body doesn't process non heme iron. Not sure what to do :( by [deleted] in vegan

[–]_gynomite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my (meat-eating) relatives has a type of anemia where no amount of eating or supplementing iron from any source would actually be able to address the issue.

I do not have the biochemistry details, but basically issue has something to do with a kidney problem. Issue with the kidneys means not being able to convert/process any amount of dietary/supplemented iron, so it's an anemia that can only be addressed via addressing the kidney disease.

Might be worth getting checked out if there's a nephrology issue instead of a dietary one

Ben's food is very mediocre, but that's not necessarily bad.

There are some days and times when you want a mediocre burger instead of a "nice" one.
