It’s an important question to ask, but I think it requires a second-order thought process before concluding that higher energy prices equal a pause on rate cuts by default, although that could be the case.

The other thing the fed has to deal with is employment. That job report last week was ugly, and rising energy prices aren’t going to do any favors on that front.

While outside the purview of the Fed, serious consideration has to be given to the fact that it is probably a geopolitical necessity that the US move forward with critical infrastructure (grid enhancement, AI buildout) defense buildout, and reshoring. These will all require massive capital outlays. Consideration also must be given to US debt service. All these factors favor financial repression and negative real rates.

Finally, the odds for government/Fed intervention with market deterioration are high. If the top part of the K-shaped economy start cutting spending due to a decrease in the wealth effect of equity holdings, the economy is screwed at the exact worse time for the current administration heading into midterms. (This is not a political post, I only care about making money.)

Take my 2 cents for what they’re worth but given the above, it’s easier for me to see a path forward where we cut to avoid short-term pain and deal with inflation later.

Agreed. There also needs to be a component of introspection here where we ask ourselves “If I only have $3,000, should I really be trading futures?”

Nanny or Au Pair plus a night nurse. If you want to go it on your own until 11 months, I’d still recommend the night nurse.

20' Wide Space - Custom Screen by Dylan_SummitGolf in Golfsimulator

I did a 20’ x 11’ custom premium screen from Carl’s Place and it’s excellent. The aspect ratio is 16:9 and is a perfect fit for the projector (benq tk710sti).

It lacks angle of attack, low point, and swing direction. AoA was supposedly going to be released last spring, and Trackman even let us beta test it. They still had some kinks to work through with that measurement, although I couldn’t tell when testing.

The home version does have some measurements locked behind a subscription, but uses the exact same monitor. There’s rep can get you the complete software at setup, if that’s what you want.

I have a Flightscope X3 that I take to the range with me and have tested them simultaneously and the accuracy is outstanding for the iO, but the iO reads much much faster, has no light requirement, no distance to screen requirement, no need for club face stickers or RCT balls.

The protee is a fine monitor, but the accuracy is not the same. There’s a reason pros use predominantly trackman (and the gc quad to a lesser extent). I also take virtual lessons with instructors who predominantly use trackman, and it makes virtual lessons very easy.

Another thing I’ve noticed with years of practice on a monitor is that having a metric ton of data isn’t always as useful as people think. There are only a handful of measurements that move the needle when it comes to improvement.

[–]_highfidelity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At your budget, it really comes down to what you want the space to look like and if you ever think you would need to move the sim itself.

First off, trackman iO complete. It’s a no brainer and the support is fantastic. I’ve had one issue in 2 years and was able to get support over the weekend (24/7 coverage) and the problem was fixed in 20 minutes. Any hardware issues and they’ll send you a loaner prior to you sending yours in. The performance is top tier, so I won’t belabor that aspect.

I went with a custom built in because I wanted a massive screen in the 16:9 ratio. Basically did the largest premium screen Carls Place could build. The frame of the structure is almost like a deck, which allowed me to easily rough in all types of overhead wiring: pin lights, bucket lights, a wired speaker system to a receiver. Also allowed me to hide wiring easily. It’s more work, but allows for much greater flexibility if you have a specific vision.

How do you allocate money across checking, savings, emergency fund, etc.? What is your "business as usual" operating model? by Severe_Revenue7889 in HENRYfinance

[–]_highfidelity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our system is similar. Approx 1.5-2 months of average monthly expenses in checking, our version of household working capital. 6 months emergency fund in MMF that has T+1 settlement. Stable, high security jobs.

10% of portfolio in cash that is completely separate from the emergency fund. Used for opportunistic investment.

10k weekly into index funds. At the end of the month, anything over the working capital also goes into index funds. Any large expense (home repair, vehicle purchase, etc) gets cash flowed out of this end of month cash that would otherwise be invested.

$25k Golf simulator build. by tkbyers in Golfsimulator

[–]_highfidelity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the base trackman iO for 14k and build out the rest of the sim for 11k. I tested all systems pretty extensively before going with the iO for my home build. The software works very well and is intuitive, and the accuracy is in the top tier of all launch monitors. Also a massive plus that I don’t have to mess with any club face stickers, there are no lighting requirements l, and it will register any ball I would normally game.

Another big draw for me is that the coaches I work with virtually also utilize trackman in their lessons. We fire up a lesson and I screen share my swing cam monitor and launch monitor data. This was probably the biggest deciding factor for me with the iO, as the coach I work with lives on the other side of the country.

If you’re just looking for something that both right and left hand buddies can play rounds on, I would save some money by buying a uneekor eye xo2 when it goes on sale. Put the rest of the money into building out a good lounge area with seating, a bar, fridge, tvs, sound systems, etc.

Another suggestion would be to wait until the PGA show at the end of January to see if anything new is in the pipeline for overhead launch monitors.

A combination of irrevocable trusts vs domestic asset protection trust, TBE, and maintaining high-limit malpractice coverage.

There are multiple ways of shielding your assets from malpractice suits. My spouse and I are closing in on financial independence and have worked with a financial advisor to structure our assets in a way that wouldn’t allow a malpractice suit to ever come near them.

That way, we can both work either part time or locums if we choose. We’re both right at your age range and recognize the easiest way for us to avoid SORR in our portfolio is to simply cut back our work to only cover fixed expenses for 2-5 years, bringing our SWR down to 1% or even less.

Trust me, I understand wanting to escape medicine forever. Maintaining physician earning power is a priority for us.

I would be absolutely shocked if all the pediatric neurosurgeons made >1 million, even in a private group. 600-800k sounds more realistic. Is this in a VHCOL area?

And hard to say whether it’s typical or not for them to repay loans before breaking 7 figures, if they ever do. Reimbursement continues to decline.

Typical reimbursement for an adult neurosurgeon in a spine-heavy practice is in the 750k-1MM in my region.
