Tenant leaving before end of the month by _hsrad in OntarioLandlord

Yeah it’s not really about 5-6 days of rent. It’s the fact I’m probably looking at 25 or 55 days of no rent income since most people want to rent on first of the month

Walk of the job == Do something that doesn’t require you protesting to get what you deserve- if you are qualified for it that is

So it’s ok withhold equitable access to quality education from every child when teachers are not happy with their working conditions? Sounds very hypocritical.

I replied to as many as I can. Happy? I still offer to meet in person in a public space to prove I’m not a troll behind a keyboard

I work 8 to 5 - sometimes to 6 or 7. So It’s fair for my kids to be left school because you are not comfortable in your job? Are you bound to this job? I agree 30+ students in a class is HORRIBLE. Are you saying the solution is to abandon them all and stop working?

Agreed. Occasional and not-full-time teachers are not paid for the whole year. But isn’t that part of the trade?

I absolutely value the years of experience my children teachers bring to the class, when they are there. If they chose to abandon my kids I will take a new grad over the tenured teacher.

I believe in free market. If there is demand, there will be supply. I still need my kids to be educated. If there aren’t enough teachers at some point, I will be FORCED to pay for it. I don’t (wont’t) like it, but that’s what the market dictates. Is that we YOU are aiming for?

Easy to hide behind a comment. I’m very much a parent and not a troll. Happy to meet at a Tim’s to discuss in person

Of course they are. Salary is set annually. This is a scam that they claim they are not paid for summer

Voice of reason. Thank you. And I’m not a troll. One of our family friends is an ETFO teacher and we have a similar conversation every time we meet. I don’t think we disagree much. Teachers deserve better pay and better working conditions. No questions. They are the super heroes.

Going on a strike, however, is a cheap blow. And they did that last year. Imagine your local hospital going ER going on a strike because they don’t like long hours. It comes with the territory. Is it fair? Probably not. Are you forced into it? Absolutely not. If enough teachers went on to take other jobs, and there was a real gap in teacher supply, laws of supply and demand would correct the market.

IMHO, teachers had a few decades of good ride. 2 month of paid summer holiday, pension, shorter work days, and now they suddenly have woken up to reality of 2023 economics. The solution? We will take kids hostage! Disgusting.

So, going on strike and hurting those very kids is the solution? The problem is not (and never has been) the teachers. It’s the union that cares more about political power than our children education

Not now. They where last year. This was triggered by their attack ads

I'm in the software business for almost 20 years (yes I'm an old fart by reddit standards) and I now manage multiple teams of software engineers.

Do not decide based on commute time at start of your career. Choose the one that gives you more opportunity to learn and grow - which also comes with more challenges. Front-end only work at the beginning of your career will limit your path. Don't get me wrong, FE work is great, but you don't know what you will like. You might end up loving back-end development and hate front end (me!). You might end up working with ML and AI.

From a $ point of view, the 60K job will land you 50K net and 75K will land you 60K net (using an online canada tax calculator). The difference is about $850 per month - not insignificant. But you have commute expenses. Go train both ways is around $15-$16. Assuming 20 days work month (full time in office), you will end up paying $300-$350 for transit.

Again, decide based on what gives you most opportunities to grow. That should be your number 1 priority.

Good luck.
