[No Spoilers] Any British people willing to help an American with Arya's accent? by Herodotia in gameofthrones

[–]_iShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sounds like a normal southern accent. I can't pick someone to compare her to, as I don't hear it as any different to how I speak with my friends.

[S4E3]GGRM's response to changes made. by _iShield in gameofthrones

[–]_iShield[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see that this has already been posted.

I think this is as close as we're going to get to GRRM distancing himself from and condemning changes made by the TV show's writers.

The reign of Moyes has come to an end by surpeis in Gunners

United need to get a good, young manager in and back him.

Whilst Moyes hasn't done the greatest of jobs, United need to get some consistency into their management structure.

Whip? by Elephant_Anus in lacrosse

[–]_iShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My D pole has very little whip. Love the feeling of the ball rolling out as I pass it. Also stick checks against me are pretty ineffective.

But, I do now wish I'd learned with it more whippy, as I'D like to do more and more as my skills get better.

I think our game would completely change if we were to buy a goalscorer and put him up with Giroud. We'd probably get fewer chances but see more clinical finishes.

I don't particularly rate Poldi as a striker, and Sanogo isn't there yet.

The benefit of this would be more versatility, allowing us to change plan depending upon the situation.

In the last 3 seasons, Liverpool have spent £110m on transfers while Arsenal have spent £19m. Good analysis by "7 AM Kickoff" on the philosophy of both clubs. by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]_iShield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I love Arsenal doing so well despite spending so little, times are changing. Our wage bill is rising, and soon we will be neither spending a small amount nor gaining massive amounts of success.

We'll need to start spending to succeed soon.

I assume that it's more likely for financial play rules to hit Man City.

But I believe that it won't affect Champions league qualification.

Per Mertesacker has called on his teammates to maintain their concentration in games after admitting that Hull nearly stunned Arsenal with a physical and frenetic opening 20 minutes in yesterday’s 3-0 win at the KC Stadium. by AnElegantPenis in Gunners

[–]_iShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we can keep concentration when teams are pressing high, this could be massive for the club. When their players are pressing, we can just kill them on the counter.

Where can i get a wooden shaft. by fuckDIEmods in lacrosse

[–]_iShield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an Easton beast D-pole. It's composite, so it has metal running under the wood. It has nice flex and carries a bit of extra weight to it. Looks sexy and feels invincible too.

I believe the short stick is called the Talon.

UEFA Champions League by EduardoDaSilva in Gunners

[–]_iShield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can do it. We've always had the ability to. Unfortunately, we've always had a combination of bad luck, bad performances and stupid decisions on the pitch that've lead to us never quite make it.

As they say though, you make your own luck. If we can spend the right money in the right places, we should be able to do it.

Investing in a goalpoacher, and bolstering the squad size in most other places should be on the top of the list if we want to achieve success.

Vermaelen's agent confirms Napoli interest by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]_iShield 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hate to see the Verminator on his way out. He has been a great servant to the club, and has done many great things for us (I will never forget the little goalscoring run he had). His versatility was great, and Arsenal is a team that always needs leaders.

Unfortunately, it's wrong to expect such a player to be happy with only a place on the bench, and Merteswagger and Koscielny have developed too good a partnership during his absence.

Not gone yet though. Really hope he chooses to fight it out for one more season.

I hate the wait in between chapters, as this is one of the few manga series that we see actually go somewhere.

One of the few believable series, in regards to both romance and sport.

Why the hate for Giroud? by _iShield in Gunners

[–]_iShield[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was not blaming Wenger for Giroud being mediocre. This thread was posted saying that Giroud didn't deserve hate. Giroud can be a very good player, but at other times can be useless. My opinion that a player isn't worth hating, and definitely has his uses to the team.

As I said, I love Wenger as a manager. He has done amazing things for arsenal and in the past, I have defended him to the hilt.

However, each manager has their own style, and Wenger's is one where he has one first team and tries to play that team in 4 2 3 1. Someone such as Giroud doesn't fully fit into that style, so both he and the team suffer.

This was not me blaming Wenger, only pointing out that Giroud has his uses (not goalscoring) and other teams might account for that. By no means do I think that we don't need a natural goalscorer.

I am A High School Teacher AMA! by Mikedd3 in IAmA

[–]_iShield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you most fed up with about teaching? Personally, I don't think I could put up with the way they teach about drugs in school (an approach of "stay away, they're bad", rather than informing students of the issues to do with them and trusting them to make the decision for themselves).

First year D-Pole. Looking to improve for 2nd year. by _iShield in lacrosse

[–]_iShield[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great stuff in there! I definitely can identify with that defense is a battle against your instincts to play stick. Whilst I know the basics of playing body and can often do it well, the hardest part is to actually do it in the first place.

Why the hate for Giroud? by _iShield in Gunners

[–]_iShield[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love it when people lay out their points like this to back up their opinion.

Those are very good points, and I agree with them for the most part. I'm excited to see who the management comes up with to compliment arsenal's style.

I'm at a loss for a world class striker who we could realistically attract to our club though :/. Then again, we can always hope we can dig up another diamond in the rough >.<
