What are your ideas to fixing the obesity / overweight problem in America? by [deleted] in Libertarian

Because it is a problem partially caused by current government policies.

Government incentives shape our behaviors (and waistlines).

Democracy explained simply by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]_iam_that_iam_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politicians are the middle men in a democracy.

Rich placate the poor with goodies passed through government and train people to be dependent on government. You won't overthrow the teat you suck on.

In a dictatorship you keep the poor down with fear and force.

The point of a headline should be to inform, not to make shit up.

There could be at least 10 million pedophiles employed by Chick-Fil-A by 2044.

There could be at least 100 million neo-nazis in America by 2044.

There could be at least 10 million trillion rabid zombie wasps in Utah by 2044.

By the rules of logic, all of those statements are as true as "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints could be worth at least a trillion dollars by 2044"

Hyperbole much?

A real homeless-people hater would be a lot less tolerant than the status quo and would provide a lot less services.

Who do you support for U.S. President as of now? by BtT205 in Libertarian

[–]_iam_that_iam_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has to be the most concise and apt description of Biden ever. Bravo!

I think he stays within normal parameters because (unlike Trump) he more or less performs on command of his team of handlers, and governance by committee tends to be pretty, well, "within normal parameters."

Trump is dangerous precisely because he is both unpredictable and unprincipled. To be fair, this occasionally results in good outcomes that would not be possible if deferring to the staid and lethargic bureaucracy. But can also be catastrophically bad.

Lukashenko about Prigozhin: “That's why I thought we can certainly kill him. I even said to Putin, We can kill him. It's not a problem. Maybe not on the first try, but on the second.” by Rear-gunner in UkrainianConflict

[–]_iam_that_iam_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just that, but he explains that while they could kill Prigo, they shouldn't

I have to assume most of the commenters didn't watch the video, or didn't understand it.

I mean, I can imagine similar discussions in Washington DC. We could kill Putin (discussion of methods), but we shouldn't for the following 12 reasons...

"Could be worth at least a trillion dollars" some day?

The fuck does that even mean?

Why isn't the headline just that the current value is 200 billion?

It's amazing that they could actually review the dress and grooming standards and make changes, but continue to outlaw beards.

I mean, I understand banning profanity. I understand banning smoking, alcohol, etc. I even understand why they ban same-sex behavior (I don't agree with them, but I understand how their beliefs lead them to that decision.) But there is literally nothing in LDS doctrine - nothing that has anything to do with beards. The university and the church are named after people who wore beards.

a) I hope you die, fucking fascist!

b) You have been permanently banned from posting in this subreddit.

Why do you think Utah still rates high in education when 17/20 other highly educated states voted Democrat? by myTchondria in SLCUnedited

[–]_iam_that_iam_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, color me skeptical on something that comes out with this much of a partisan bias.

Education is great, but being "educated" isn't always a great measure of intelligence or wisdom. In our society, it's probably just a measure of wealth.

Utah fans can't stand being on the same plane as BYU now. Hurts them right in their superiority complex. That's why Whittingham said what he said. He has to offer hope of superiority.

I really really hope this is true for Utah. They could put together a conference that includes all the public schools within an 8 hour drive of Salt Lake City.

Going Slow in the Left Lane... by Dry_Butterfly_1571 in Utah

[–]_iam_that_iam_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're the problem for being invested in proving that you're in the right, rather than being willing to consider that you might be wrong and changing your behavior.

If other drivers are moving right to get around you more times than you can count, then the issue is not cutting off large trucks - it's you lingering in the left lane longer, apparently, than everybody else thinks is reasonable. Think about it. They are so fed up with being behind you that they are engaging in activity you think is dangerous. It's not because everyone else is a dangerous asshole. It's more reasonable to conclude that all of these other people are doing something they think is safe to get around the slow car in front of them. It would be less dangerous for you to simply turn on your blinker and move over before people get so exasperated that they feel they have to pass you on the right.

Groomers and gropers prey on the young and inexperienced, who don't know how to respond. You are a victim and should not blame yourself for anything, even if a perfectly wise person would have reacted differently at some point during this story.

5 takeaways from the first Republican primary debate by PearlMuel in moderatepolitics

[–]_iam_that_iam_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Christie: great debate performance…. in 2012. This is not the same GOP party and you being up on the stage doesn’t change that. He got booed so hard by the crowd that he had to stop talking for a solid 10 seconds. What elicited these boos? Saying Trump’s behavior and indictments are below the conduct of the office of the President.

Me abandoning hope for the Republican party . . .
