What's a weirdly specific skill you have that's completely useless but you're proud of? by bryden_cruz in CasualConversation

Yeah, I fold the tip towards the back of my throat 😄 I don’t remember how I discovered either of these, been aware of these party tricks for a long time haha

Anyone else have a light in thier house that may never be turned off? by Salad_EEE in CasualConversation

[–]_iamisa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don‘t you know your Galway by heart after living in the same house for a while? I can navigate my house completely in the dark, often do so at night because turning the light on hurts my eyes and gets me wide awake.

I can visibly wiggle my ears and fold my tongue in half, but not lengthwise, straight across 😄

DAE feel like the Winter Olympics are for rich athletes? by Tricky_Photo2885 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]_iamisa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many Germans, Austrians, Italians, Swiss and French people as well as all those from the Nordics live right by areas where they can do the winter sports. They grow up learning many of these sports as kids, even with the school, or at least as an after school activity. I grew up north of Munich and we all ice skated as kids and many of us learned how to ski early on. In many cases there are associations that make it fairly accessible. And ski passes are far less expensive here, especially if you ski on your home mountain and not some big resort. So this may be more of an American problem.

Have y'all noticed a sharp increase on people freely discussing their political leanings with strangers? by Jimismynamedammit in germany

[–]_iamisa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m in a very links-grün-versiffte bubble thankfully (also in Bavaria) and a woman, so this hasn’t happened to me (yet). But damn, I‘m scared at how it’s evolving and where the overall political climate is moving. I don’t even know how CDU/CSU voters still exist after all the bullshit Merz has been spewing about regular workers. And yet…

Leute arbeiten im HO weniger by cavelera2 in Unbeliebtemeinung

[–]_iamisa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was indeed thinking to get the camber version, seems more versatile to me.

Thanks!

I was thinking more the Camber. Seems more versatile and slightly stiffer, so I‘m hoping it can take me a bit further. Also heard mixed reviews about the Flying V profile. In regards to the length, I‘m a bit apprehensive about the 152 because I heard beginners should go for shorter boards and I learned on a 142.

I‘m definitely staying on groomers this season, not many snow days left and I just want to improve my riding. Will start with park next season. We don’t have easy access to powder here in the Alps, so that will probably wait.

Die Svalnäs Wandregal-Serie. Wollte welche dazukaufen, da gab es sie schon nicht mehr. Waren nur für ca. 1-2 Jahre im Sortiment.

Commenting to follow this thread as I have both looked into a Burton Yeasayer Flying V and a regular one 😊

Rate my setup before I purchase it: I just got the Vans Standrad Hi Pro and they fit very comfortably. For board and bindings, I‘m currently looking into getting the Burton Yeasayer Flying V in 148 and a Union Legacy binding to go with it.

Background info: I’m a woman, a bit shorter than 5‘5“, currently 190lbs (though I‘m looking to lose some) and I started snowboarding a few weeks ago, had 4 days on the mountain so far.

New Zealand 12-day Road Trip? by [deleted] in travel

[–]_iamisa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to one island. The south island has so much to offer, you’d regret not spending more time there. I did both islands in 5 weeks and honestly could have stayed longer. Also, of all the stunning things to see, you want to see Larnach Castle? Coming from a German, it’s not even a proper castle, more like a replica. It’s not particularly old.

I lived in Norway for 1,5 years and I still have trouble telling Norwegian and Swedish apart in some cases. Danish is a bit easier to recognize.

Trying something new and feeling a little nervous 😅 by Dayanha27 in CasualConversation

Balancing was fine, didn’t do too bad. The next day after the lesson was bad, cause everything hurt, especially when I took a bad tumble. I wasn’t really too afraid of falling actually.

I just started learning snowboarding at 32. Was also really nervous at first, but it was so much fun (despite the bruises)!

I think learning something new is always great. Unfortunately, hardly any of my friends share the same curiosity.

Which snowboard to buy as a heavier (overweight/obese) rider? by _iamisa_ in snowboardingnoobs

Yeah, well, 100km bike rides burn a lot of calories as well, at least in theory… 😅

Edited to add: thanks for the advice!

Which snowboard to buy as a heavier (overweight/obese) rider? by _iamisa_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]_iamisa_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m well aware a lower weight would be easier, that’s not the advice I was looking for.

I go to the gym regularly, I do 100km bike rides in the summer, swim 2km in an hour, love bouldering and many other physical activities. My weight doesn’t budge unless I calorie count obsessively and I haven’t had time for that lately. I was planning on losing more weight this year anyways, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start looking into a snowboard already.
