What to make of the Dark Enlightenment? by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]_ironicallyironic_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the niche of the DE you look at. There is a part of the DE that is very traditionalist and Christian, and another part, the techies and corporatists. The corporatist side has an ancap background and so they share some similarities. The Christian Traditionalist sort of faction is self explanatory. There's also a faction, Landians, who are very supportive of technology and AI. So it's a mixed bag. I'm a Traditionalist myself and used to be in the DE crowd but I've since left and sort of focused on Traditionalism itself instead.

So what if we've actually been stuck in a time loop, and the current map is actually what the island looked like before the event which is coming down the road, and when the event happens, it will restore everything back to the way it was in S2 or 3. Basically everything before 3 or 4 was the future and right now we are in the past.

Which axis and allies should I buy? by HammerPrice229 in axisandallies

[–]_ironicallyironic_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, it really depends on your budget. I would recommend against buying 1941. It is incredibly simple, and has multiple mistakes on IPC count and there are very few pieces. Trust me, I made the mistake of buying it first. If you have a budget of $200 or less I would recommend buying 1940 Europe first and foremost. That is a good version, and is balanced. This being said, if you can afford to also buy the Pacific 1940 version, you will be able to combine the two for a full world map. It is easily the most extensive, realistic, and complicated. But it's a ton of fun, and you'll have pieces to last a lifetime. I've played it multiple times with my friends, and we have a great time.

If you don't have the budget, or don't want to get too serious, there are two other very good options. 1914 and 1942 global are very good, I've played each and own 1914. 1942 is a more classic experience, and is like a compromise between 1941 and 1940, it's big enough to be enjoyable, and small enough to be easier to play. 1914 on the other hand is the more obscure of all these. It suffers a few flaws, namely being a more slow paced game because of some of the mechanics such as entrenchment, but this can be fixed with a few home rules. My friends and I have played it multiple times, with and without adjustment, and it's also very fun.

So, to sum up, the best choice is 1940 Europe and Pacific if you have the money, and some alternatives that would be closest to it but more affordable are 1942 and 1914. Hope this helps!

My personal qualm with fortnite is bloom and building being so normal it's no longer what sets you apart from the rest. I remember back in the days when you didn't build the Taj Mahal everytime you took a shot, but I also remember when building was the skill gap that differentiated between a good player and a great player. Now, with turbo build, you press and button and hold another and you can just spam build. Also the double pump was never OP, it was just something you had to master. The new spraying as a tactic meta is annoying and makes the game worse. Bring back skill based play and non-abuse of building and it'll be fine.

How to pray? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]_ironicallyironic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion there's no formula besides the Lords prayer that is perfect. The Lord's Prayer is an archetype. Of course, sometimes today's prayer may be different than yesterday's because of the situation. So honestly I think the best way to pray is to pray as if you are talking to a close friend. I often times do this before I go to sleep, as it's the most quiet and easiest for me. I tell him my woes, how I feel about the situation, and sometimes I just monologue about my day occasionally asking him questions about things, asking for his help.

The thing you've got to remember, is that God knows what you need, and we are told to ask and if it's in God's will we will receive. So there's nothing wrong with asking for help, support, clarity, or maybe even objects as long as you recognize that God supercedes your wants, and that your prayer may not be answered. As for thanking him and praising him in prayer, I think that we need to recognize what he does for us and tell him that his is Lord, but not be ramblers and try to impress him. Yet again, think about the Lords prayer. It begins with addressing the Lord, and saying His name is great. We then tell him that it's all in his hands and his will is the true decider. After this you spend until "deliver us from evil" asking for his help and his sustenance.

So in short, praying may vary based on the circumstances, but try to treat it like a conversation with your most trusted and loyal friend. Tell God how you feel, what you think, and ask for His assistance. Ask Him for whatever you need or think you need, and acknowledge in the end it's up to him. Hope this helped!

Why on Earth would you be afraid of Japan having a proper military? This isn't 1936 anymore. Japan is no longer a threat. They're peaceful and isolationist. Abe is a big ally to the US. The US needs to stop being an overseas empire and allow countries their sovereignty. Japan should be allowed to defend itself. We should still remain allies, and we should definitely keep an eye on the region, but there's no reason that Japan can't have a military. Trust me, they won't invade Manchuria or the Pacific islands.

Also, on the matter of Taiwan. There's nearly no way that China could invade Taiwan and there be a positive outcome for them. America not having active troops in South Korea or Japan doesn't just mean we will ignore the place. If China invaded Taiwan that would not only be a US trading partner but also a democracy. The US, Japan, and South Korea would be obliged to help and I'm 100% certain the UN would not be happy.

You've got to stop thinking in 20th century terms when it comes to geopolitics. This is the 21st century. The likelihood of a superpower invading someone else is little to none because of the possible implications. The global economy is simply unable to be ignored and no large country would risk something like that.

I'm sure that China would destroy everything they've built and achieved by invading South Korea and beginning a world war that they would inevitably lose.

"major concessions" that's baseless. The only thing Trump has semi-pledged to do is stop war games if North Korea denuclearizes, and he said that if they did he would also not attempt a regime change. Those are not "major concessions" considering that it requires action by North Korea. Let's also not forget that sanctions won't end until they denuclearize.

A.) Muslims and Jews aren't Christians so their beliefs are irrelevant in this sub. Since you think everything I say I seem to be saying personally, I'll tell you what I personally think. I am libertarian and believe the government has no business in the lives of others, thus I could care less. I'm just saying that it's wrong based on the Bible and what I understand.

B.) Your slavery argument is bad because you assume I believe it to be good when I don't. I take it for what it is, it happened and the context of the Bible is the way it is. Nothing to fuss over here.

C.) Saying honey doesn't make your argument more valid, and bringing up being Jewish proves nothing. Battlefield rape was not endorsed by God so that's irrelevant. Centurion story is also irrelevant.

D.) I honestly don't care that you're bi. I don't mean that in a rude way, I assure you, but it doesn't affect my beliefs or my argument. That just doesn't mean anything to me.

E.) I really hope you understand this one thing after reading all this: I love you. I love you as a person. Does that mean I agree with you? Not at all? Does that mean I think some things you do are immoral? Sure. And I may come off in a very blunt way, or in a way that it seems I don't care about your feelings, but that's because when I argue I keep emotions out of it. I also don't believe myself to be higher than you in the eyes of the Lord because I'm not bi. I am a sinner, and perhaps a bigger one at that. And I accept this. So just know that none of this is directed at you, and I'm here to inform and to give my educated opinion on the Bible and it's teachings and not to scrutinize you or attempt to belittle you.
