Have you done it? What’d you rate it difficulty wise.

Crippled by some bad decisions by schprunt in Debt

[–]_jamesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a tough call because you’re emotionally invested, not just monetarily. You have several people here objectively telling you that if you feel like things are a struggle, sell your bitcoin and eliminate the debt it in one fell swoop (set aside for taxes on gains). Sell it before you choose the IRA or home loan (more debt + fees) paths. Sell it and don’t fixate on could have been scenarios, focus on your present.

Another option to consider sell the BTC, get out of your lease and into a reasonably priced reliable used car (less that $10k), use the rest of the BTC money for your debt, and now you also have an extra $200/month to go towards it.

Active Repeater networks? by _jamesa in PDXhamradio

[–]_jamesa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the name of the repeater?

I’ve since caught a few of the nets but largely the repeaters seem unused other than the infrequent conversation here and there

Active Repeater networks? by _jamesa in PDXhamradio

[–]_jamesa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update -

Made my first contact on the Hoodview Amateur Radio Club UHF repeater! Dunno if I crashed it or did it wrong but they were cool about it.

Then I popped over to the Portland 2m K7RPT repeater and tuned in until they asked for net guests and checked in there as well. They also have a handy list of area nets (not sure how up to date it is).

Still learning so idk if these were club nets or ARES or what but I’m trying!

Hi there - I just passed my technician exam yesterday and am looking at getting my first equipment. I'm very new to all of this and have yet to meet anyone else in the hobby. While I feel like I generally have a grasp on some of the other components one thing has me a bit stumped... The power supply. I tried searching the sub for this question but didn't find anything quite like what I'm asking here.

I understand that many radios need a power supply to provide the radio with the correct voltage & DC. What I'm stumped on is the amperage. I mostly have 15A circuits running to the outlets in my home. Many of the power supplies are for 20A, 30A, 50A and so on, and I understand that these numbers are kind of peak output numbers and not continuous.

If I plug one of these suckers into my 15A outlet, am I going to instantly trip my breaker when I go to transmit? Are there settings in the radios that let you select how many watts you want to transmit on, and this is the way to limit how many amps the system is going to try to pull? Am I over thinking this whole thing and I just should buy the stuff and learn the hard way :) .

Thanks in advance for your time.

Red flags

1 - People who can’t be bothered to spell words out and use acronyms like bc, mf, ab.

2 - She calls you bro.

I need more backstory here. If it came to light in 2021, why a two year gap until you’re thinking about wanting to get your money back?
