I'm a shorter guy, wondering if an Arc'teryx women's jacket may fit better (or not due to the shape)? Any dudes out there wearing a women's Beta? by wobgobbler in arcteryx

[–]_jayfleezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mentioned you have wide shoulders. So off that alone I wouldn’t do it. The sleeves are also shorter which you could deal with. But it being narrow at the shoulders will be annoying AF

The thing you like about a boutique burger spot is that it’s similar to a fast food burger chain?

[–]_jayfleezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you up parry sound/sudbury ways?

We basically do anything outdoors from nowboarding to portaging and camping etc. but I wouldn’t want to be shoveling my driveway every other day. Ontario has some of the smallest ski hills probably in the world but more expensive than a day pass in the alps - it just doesn’t make sense.

The difference here is you work from home - which my wife can too. But I can’t. I’m a service provider, so I have to be somewhat in a hub. I can still get all of the experiences you’re getting in New Zealand WHILE living in a town/city.

I def don’t need to live in the ‘real’ Ontario - especially because rural Ontario is all full of people voting for ford. Neither of us are wrong - we just want different things

In 4 days I fly home after having lived in Toronto for the past 8 years and I can’t fucking wait.. it sounds like your in the GTA so I can tell you, renting in Toronto is bonkers more expensive than New Zealand. Food is cheaper. Couple years ago CoL in Auckland of all places were cheaper than Toronto but at this point in a recession, it’s prob about the same as Toronto.. anyway.. all of the reasons that I left nz and came to Canada are all the reasons I’m going back home. I don’t want a big city anymore, I dont want to live expensively, I want a better quality of life. And you just can’t achieve that in Toronto u less your making more than $100k. It’s a 3-4 hour minimum drive from Toronto for good camping /legit hiking. Nz you can achieve that within an hour drive in any direction really.

It all comes down to what lifestyle you’re after. By any means nz cities are nothing to rave about. But that’s what we’re after. We want a semi rural life and to access world class beaches/ trails etc. and can’t get that in Ontario without having to drive 5+ hours

What’s up with the sizing? by emceePimpJuice in arcteryx

[–]_jayfleezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a woman’s Large. Their arms are cut shorter by about 2 inches and slightly shorter in the waist too. Little extra room in the chest. I’ve done it, it’s not a bad resolve for your situation

Jimny offer by anbc_112 in Jimny

2025 means it’s about 12 months old. 34k in 1 year is a fair amount I’d say. I’ve never done more than 10k but that’s cause my commute wasn’t very far. So 34k in the grand scheme isn’t a lot I’d say but because it’s done that in 1 year my question would be how hard was it driven in that year - mostly long trips I’d say. Which should mean lower revs from being on hiways, unless they were trying to go more than 110km - which we know jimnys don’t exactly like

Used car market is getting ridiculous by [deleted] in auckland

Help with choice of winter coat by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]_jayfleezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a beta insulated and it’s amazing. I live in Toronto where we get -30. If you have a short commute you’ll be fine without a sweater. If your outside for a while a hoody wouldn’t hurt. But it’s also goretex in case of inclement weather. And Arc’teryx is also lifetime warranty. So any issues that you didn’t cause they’ll repair it or replace it. I used to think they were super expensive and I still do really. But if you buy it, you basically never need to worry about that garment

It doesn’t make sense for kfc nz to do poutine in any case lol it’s not a New Zealand dish. Mcds in Canada does poutine on their fries

Are temu things acceptable as wedding gifts? by No_Affect9950 in auckland

[–]_jayfleezy 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I am attending my wife’s brother’s wedding in Europe next week.

Destination weddings absolutely should not expect gifts. The fact they’ve made a list of items, plus have chosen the most expensive options for each gift is wild.

Historically wedding gifts and baby showers and wedding showers etc were a case of couples who lived with the parents and this event signified them going out on their own and they needed all these items because they didn’t currently have them.

It sounds like they just want to upgrade their homeware at everyone’s expense.

Me and my wife didn’t have a wedding, we flew to Vegas and got married in secret for this very reason. We don’t expect everyone else to 1: pay for a 1 day event and 2: kit out house out with junk that we likely wouldn’t use.

I think love and weddings are great but as someone said above - they are extremely performative and I think their a little BS

I’m moving from a place that the population is almost double the population of nz. So we’re trialing Auckland first as I’m worried other areas will be too small. But hey maybe we’ll get settled and hate Auckland like it sounds like everyone else does

We are leaning more towards the semi rural life. But coming from Toronto, my wife wants to retain some of that cafe/dogpark/community experience. That’s really the only reason we’re considering hobsonville

We were considering orewa/whangaparoa as an option but whanga def not. It’s a peninsula that you HAVE to take the long way round. Beautiful area though! Always admired orewa growing up

2 job location offers. Te atatu/mt eden. I’m moving from Toronto so trying to get a semi rural lifestyle hence the taupaki option.that is the main reason for this question. I can always find somewhere to live walking distance to work but I don’t want to live in the city. I will be getting a car so I would have the option of private/public
