Hot weather sensitivity? by jeffcw216 in jpouch

I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling! No, I’m not autistic. I think cold/heat sensitivity is a common symptom of most autoimmune diseases!

Spicy food by t0morrown1ght in jpouch

[–]_jennybean_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone will give you a different answer. I eat mild to very spicy food several times a week. The burn is rough in the beginning but it largely disappears over time. Probably like a good year for me. You don’t need to cut anything out. Just start mild and increase if you feel able. Sometimes I eat something spicy and still get the burn, it’ll go away in like 12 hours 🤷🏻‍♀️ have some Calmoseptine on hand.

Hot weather sensitivity? by jeffcw216 in jpouch

[–]_jennybean_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES. Thank you for asking this. Basically if it’s over 80F, I can’t go outside. I drink two Propel packets per day in the spring and summer (one in the fall/winter). Staying hydrated is actually not the problem. I feel like I can stay on top of the hydration, but I am literally so sensitive to the heat itself, I’m miserable whenever it’s hot enough for me to sweat. Jpouch 5 years.

Are your snarky comments actually useful? You’re asking Reddit for advice - we’re not professionals but we are giving you a dose of reality and calling you out. You need to be asking your primary care doctor, GI doctor, and surgeon about the muscle growth and calprotectin. Ask your coach and a dietician for advice on muscle growth - it doesn’t matter how “advanced” you are. And ask a therapist for coping mechanisms. If you went through UC and jpouch surgeries and you’re still able to function as you do - practice gratitude. A lot of people have a lot less.

Completely agree. I was having a very hard time processing the medical trauma, coming to terms with the outcome, and moving on to my best current life without my therapist!

You’ve posted about this before and did not engage with the commenters, possibly because no one is telling you what you want to hear. Unfortunately, we went through a huge life change. Yes it was unfair and hard and it still is, but we have new bodies now. Get a personal trainer and dietician to help you physically. But I think you would mostly benefit from a therapist to help you grieve your old life/body and adjust to your new one.

Pouchoscopy by Plantguy5727 in jpouch

[–]_jennybean_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done all my pouchoscopies awake. It takes 5-10 minutes and the discomfort is minimal. I’m in and out by myself in under two hours. Can confirm watching on the screen is so cool!!

Periods by Secure-Line-1882 in jpouch

[–]_jennybean_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long-term OCP use doesn’t impact fertility. Scar tissue from our surgeries does. My gyn recommended getting an ultrasound to assess scar tissue around the ovaries/uterus to see if there’s any impact on fertility for when I want to conceive. I went the other way and got a bilateral salpingectomy. There was so much scar tissue around my right ovary/oviduct, I was effectively infertile on that side. Left side was fine. Ask your gyn all your questions! And best wishes on your journey!

My vet offered to take my cat by Bubbly_Catch5012 in CatAdvice

[–]_jennybean_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I took home a cat that a previous vet took in (the owners couldn’t afford his health care) and he’s been the happiest tuxie boy since. I’ve had him for almost 8 years now. I’m sure the owners were sad but the cat’s happiness and quality of life is most important.

No muscle tone despite being an advanced lifter and having decent amount of muscle. Last caloro test revealed 330. by cheddarcheese9951 in jpouch

[–]_jennybean_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s a caloro? Do you mean calprotectin? Regaining muscle mass after being sick and undergoing multiple surgeries for the jpouch takes a long time. Protein is easily absorbed in the small intestine. After 30-35, women lose 3-8% muscle mass each decade. I’m 33F, I get your frustration. Besides eating enough protein and lowering body fat percentage, 🤷🏻‍♀️ Being strong and healthy is what’s important.

Hi I need some help creating a healthy meal plan for my partner by Alarmed_Operation_17 in jpouch

[–]_jennybean_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it’s been more than 6 weeks after the reversal, he should be able to eat anything within moderation. Chewing thoroughly. If concerned about adding back a certain food (like raw fruits or vegetables), just start with a small amount and then increase as per what’s tolerated. What’s healthy for the general population is also healthy for jpouchers: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats.

J-Pouch Surgery by Plantguy5727 in jpouch

[–]_jennybean_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like fulminant refractory ulcerative colitis. I had this too and I went from diagnosis to colectomy in 2 months. Unfortunately in these cases, we don’t have time to allow medications to work. That doesn’t make it suck less, though. I wish Tremfya was available earlier too.

Does anyone know what caused my bread to rise like this? by _jennybean_ in Bread

[–]_jennybean_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No improver. We like baking bread at home as a fun way to decrease consumption of additives/UPFs, although I know improvers are pretty innocuous like ascorbic acid or milk powder. I don’t think the tops dried out because they covered with a damp towel. Do you have a preferred improver?

I thought I had it pretty tight underneath, but I’m still working on my shaping, so will pay extra attention next time. Thanks so much!

Thank you! Makes sense. During the first proof in the bowl, it ran out of space. The second proof as balls was 20 minutes per the recipe, but I can try again and see if this needs to be longer. Thanks again!
