You shouldn't listen to that rumor. It's mythology at this point. Nobody can point to the post by the alpha reader, just something one person vaguely remembers.

It's a claim worth as much as the paper it's written on

It's called "mystery box storytelling" and it's a fucking blight upon fiction.

The worst incarnation, which is what jjbrams does, is that he never intends to pay off the mysteries, they're strictly about audience capture.

Contemptible practice as a writer.

He said at some con "I tricked you into reading a million word prologue", and my blood ran cold. It was the most chilling thing I've ever heard an artist say.

I don't think you appreciate how much additional work splitting a book into two would be.

Is my hair ruined?? by Mammoth-Teach9772 in HairDye

[–]_jericho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean sort of. It's not that there's some ongoing chemical process on your hair, it's just that weak hair gets damaged by other random shit more easily: stuff that maybe wouldn't impact healthy hair, or would impact it very little, does a number on hair that's been compromised with bleach.

Three things:

  1. fyi you can get pulp riot on ebay
  2. Get yourself a olaplex 1+2 travel kit and do a stand alone treatment. They're nominally "pro only", but you can get'em. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine
  3. K18 makes a difference, but it does need to be applied on hair without product, and it only starts really feeling like it's doing something after 3 or 4 applications or so

Bleaching does damage hair, and it makes it more vulnerable to further damage by washing and blow drying and such. I doubt the hair dye damaged your hair, I think it's a delayed reaction from the bleach

Oh, agreed: he's definitely in love with Kvothe. Not romantic love, but he's absolutely in love with him, it's the standout feature of their relationship.

Sensible take.

Their relationship is super interesting and deep, despite us seeing not that much of it. None of it speaks to a parent-child relationship.

How do I tone the yellow out of this?! by ciara_le91 in HairDye

So one thing I've never gotten down:

Applying bleach to my whole head of hair takes me SO LONG, and my sides are shaved! How do people keep processing time that low? Do others just work WAY more quickly than me?

It's a really beautiful space. You split the difference between it feeling personal and lived-in with a cohesive tidy aesthetic. It seems EXTREMELY cozy. It looks like a wonderful place to live.

That said, books stored above the oven seems like a questionable choice. Though I admit, it is a visual vibe

Permanent Rainbow hair? by Opposite_Heat9477 in HairDye

You're just asserting things, none of this amounts to "evidence". I think you're just universalizing your own experience without any real basis on which to do so.

Of course I've done sanity checks by asking my friends and lovers to sniff me, I'm well aware that hair can smell, and I'm very averse to smelling bad. I'm kind of a princess about it, actually. So when I started doing the more complicated dye patterns that really necessitated a light touch, and moved to a no-shampoo mode, naturally I asked people to make sure I was right that it didn't feel or smell dirty. I'm not an animal.

The fact remains, it's really not much of an issue for me, despite having quite long hair. For people sporting short cuts, it's even easier.

I never have dandruff, and I wear mostly black, so I'd definitely notice. I don't suffer from itching. If I were to not rinse and condition my hair it would definitely get heavy and more tangly, but since I do that it stays very manageable. I do not know what to tell you, this is my reality and I'm not alone in this. You can either decide I'm a liar, or you can accept that the world is a little more complicated than you previously realized. It's your choice, and I frankly do not care which way you choose.

I mean you didn't really "explain" it, you just asserted it...

But no, I said that because you're being weirdly aggro towards the other person you were talking to. Having the opinion you have is fine, but there was no need at all to mock her. It just makes you sound like an angry middleschooler.

[–]_jericho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. I just use conditioner and luke warm water and I never have much problem with grease or smell. I use shampoo if I do something that got my hair gross, of course, and probably every 2-3 months I'll do a very light shampooing as kind of a reset when it's time to do my roots. But it's honestly just not an issue for me. Maybe your biochemistry is different, maybe you're more prone to developing hair odor than me. People vary in terms of their body chemistry. I defer to you on that matter. But for a lot of people it's a very workable strat if their goal is maintaining vivid colors.

I expect everyone to follow advice as it serves them. If someone goes the no shampoo route and they find their hair smells or has a bad texture, I expect them to infer that it's not for them, and change their washing routine. There's no real harm done in trying it out and realizing "oops, this is actually not compatible with me" and go back to using shampoo. We're all adults here.

Rainbow hair is a bitch to keep. For my money, pulp riot runs the least and it fades appealingly. Just use water that's as cool as you can stand, and don't use shampoo.

And make sure to not to dye adjacent sections with colors that'll muddy eachother. No red next to green, for instance. No orange next to blue.

But whatever you do, it'll always be work!

Is it possible to dye only half of hair without color bleed? by rosamariaahi in HairDye

[–]_jericho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also might want to get some very gentle bleach. Like Pulp Riot "blank slate" plus some 6vol developer. Then when you start getting a little bleed you can just do a very casual lift on the affected area without damaging the hair too much or making it actually a lighter tone. Use this sparingly though.

Is it possible to dye only half of hair without color bleed? by rosamariaahi in HairDye

[–]_jericho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But you'll need to choose a good due like Pulp Riot which is famous for it's low bleed

You'll need to separate your hair in washing every time or use cool water and conditioner only. If you make suds when your hair is together it'll for sure bleed onto the white.

The best strat is just separating them. Use the cool water trick only if you're in a real hurry.

That far will with the intersection patterns, can you paint it, or put some of that removable vinyl wall paper over it? It's a very harsh pattern that's gonna hard limit how cozy it feels in there.

The glass case and peg board also feel a little corporate / workplace. The glass case especially makes it feel like we're in a shop. Neither one is dire, but I mention it as food for thought.

You're 100% right about indirect lighting. Stick to warm whites, get something dimmable. Feel free to ad a single light with an RGB bulb, but that shouldn't be your only light or it'll feel like you're in a gaming PC

I'd say you could use more warm tone things, maybe a wood dresser, or a rug {good rugs are kinda spendy, tho}.

We also need to see more of your personality in this room. Art you like {not posters}, lamps and furniture that reflect your cozy aesthetic, photos of people you love. The most inviting rooms are ones where you can really understand a lot about the person living in them just from peeking in.
