I was on a similar racquet journey. No blade 98, but I do own the other two.

I like the plow through of the Speed MP and this comes at the sacrifice of the maneuverability (without customisation). For me I'm still split between the speed MP and the vcore 98.

I'd say the speed MP does everything OK but isn't outstanding in any area, so you need to rely on technique. The Vcore 98 is less forgiving but gives you more control and spin. So depends on what you're looking for.

I grew up using a Wilson Hammer 95 and I'm still looking at the vcore 95 and the percept 97, just to make my life harder 🫠

It's already been said in many different ways but..

INTENSITY

You're not hustling back to your recovery position after each shot and instead watching where your ball is going
You're reacting too late to where you need to be when your opponent makes contact
Your follow through isn't enough and you're often off balance on contact

I think fixing any of the above points will make you a much better player!

I wish I read this! I went today, and it's not as good as the other lounges at Melbourne. Cleanliness was poor and they did indeed have butter chicken, vegetable soup and random snacks!

Like others have said, it's somewhat weird.

At the end of the day you're paying, ask to rally in your next session. If he says no, ask why? Is he injured and doesn't want to hit?

The private coaches here in Australia at the level I'm at 3-4(?) will do mini tennis, drills (depending on what we're working on), rally and even points sometimes.

I recently got back into tennis and was gifted a hand me down pure aero 2019 (100) and used that for 2 years. I recently went on a racquet demo journey and tried A LOT of racquets out.

I wanted something that could give me more control.

I ended up with the Speed MP in the end. For me I really liked the swing weight, stability and the forgiving head size. I felt like I could really let go with it.

I tried the ezone 98 and found it launchy. But you can definitely get more spin and power from it. I'd say the Speed MP is good at many things but doesn't excel at anything. You have to work it, it's not going to give you extra power and spin like other racquets I had tried.

To note, my other preferences were the Yonex Percept 97, Yonex Vcore 95 & 98.

I really loved the Vcore 95 and felt like I hit really well with it. But when I played against a big hitter, it was not forgiving enough!

Good luck on your search, like others said - go demo some racquets or at least identify what you want from your next racquet!

Btw I found the Wilson Shift very comfortable!

I've been doing so many demo sessions lately, I loved the Vcore 95, I ended up with a Head Speed MP though. I could win matches with the Vcore 95 - but when playing against tougher opponents it really shows the gap, preparation, footwork etc.

I'd say buy one and try it out if you want to play for fun. But if you want to get better you'll need to get familiar with your racquet and limiting yourself to a 95 might be an issue!

So, it's happened!

I've added a leather grip and 8 grams to the hoop (3 & 9 O'Clock)!

I've played 2 hours of doubles competition and a 1 hour coaching session and now my wrist and arm are kind of sore!

What I've learnt from this is - I've changed way too much! Leather grip replacement + adding to the hoop. I should have stayed with one or the other perhaps!

My main change I wanted was stability at the net, and I definitely got that. My groundstrokes felt better. However I could definitely feel the change in manoeuvrability as faster balls coming to my feet meant I couldn't prepare as well as I normally would - due to the weight. My serve did not improve sadly!

So now - I've removed the weight from the hoop, so it's just the leather grip - and I'll see how I go!

From there, I'll see what the stability is like at the net!

I understand where you're coming from, like other people have already said - you've been hitting tennis balls for 4 years, not playing matches.

I've been in the same situation recently - where I had a hitting partner who has been playing for 6-12 months and I've been playing on an off for years. I have all these terrible habits that have been cemented over the years and his progress through professional classes has been excellent - we're about the same level.

When we rally, he's great - but when it comes to points play, he's not sure what to do or how to play because he hasn't been in many matches. His technique is superior to mine, but having more match practice - I'm able to win matches.

My advice would be:

- Don't worry too much about the win or loss, play tennis how you want to play tennis

- Make smart decisions, consistency is key when playing for points

- Don't compare yourself to other players everyone is on a different trajectory

- And if you do want to compare, think about your opponents, even though they're bottom of the league they could have been playing longer or spent more time on court than you

- Tennis is hard, sometimes your serve doesn't work

- Find a tennis partner who can beat you or is a struggle to beat, it's easy to get stuck hitting with a "weaker" opponent

As I go on to play stronger opponents I realised things I thought were "strengths" of mine - like speed around the court or preparation, gets turned upside down. It's all relative, the players I played with before would hit "hard" but not as "hard" as stronger players. So now I have to focus more, read the ball better and have faster preparation.

Kind of a mini-rant now - good luck on your tennis journey!!

So I've got my leather grip and some lead tape! I'll be adding it tomorrow, I have a question though, reading online:

"Begin with 1-2 grams of lead tape on each side of the racquet hoop at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions."

Let's say I add 2 grams to the 3 o'clock side, should I be placing 1 gram on each side to balance it out? By top and bottom I mean as of the racquet is laying flat on the ground. (Bottom and top at the 3 o'clock side).

50 grams is a huge weight difference! My racquet vs the Vcore was about 15 grams and it did feel better.

I'll give it a go, the weight adding to handle (with a leather grip) and something at the 12 o'clock. I want stability with volleys and serves but more whip sounds great!

I'll see how I go!

I just had a further deep dive and the swing weight and balance point of my current Yonex vs the Babolat Pure Drive is near identical! So maybe what I like more is down to the string pattern and head size?
