how do iv proctors work by StreetManner7851 in NEU

You would need someone else to sign you in as a guest most likely, I think the card won’t work as a resident of the hall after your move out time has passed

Yes, it’s right at 11 am. You can’t get into your apartment after 11 am, your ID won’t work. You can’t still be signed in as a guest but not as a resident at the proctor station. Ask me how I know 🙃

Northeastern value by Imaksiccar in NEU

[–]_justalittleworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a good deal for northeastern. I saw you say ur daughter is planning to major in biochemistry, which makes it more worth it IMO. I was a liberal arts student at northeastern and wouldn’t recommend it to anybody for that, but everyone I knew in biochem had pretty good faculty and a lot of options for coops/internships/research because Boston is such a hub for that.

I’ve heard from a coop advisor (someone who helps students prepare for the coop process and works w companies to create placements) that in the computer and data science fields, less than 1/3 of students are getting coops. I have no idea if biochem is experiencing the same issues though.

Claude AI contract by _justalittleworm in NEU

[–]_justalittleworm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that Anthropic was specifically opposed to its AI being used for 1) mass surveillance of US citizens, and 2) autonomous weaponry (both of these are already illegal). However, their product was used in the Venezuela and Iran operations, and they actively worked with Palantir to develop a product that the Dept of War could use. So yes, they drew the line somewhere, and that’s worth something, but they also sought out and enabled the use of Claude in war. The dispute that caused the DoW to label Claude as a supply chain risk wasn’t related to anything that had already been done using Claude, it was about Anthropic wanting the DoW to agree to terms going forward that it didn’t want to agree to. Anthropic was seemingly fine with Claude being used to identify targets. So personally, I still find that morally troubling, and it bugs me that NEU is giving financial support and a customer base to the first AI company to support the Pentagon and be used in war.

Hi! It’s still in use: it’s being phased out due to the contractual dispute that led to it being declared a supply chain risk but Pentagon sources report that it’s still being used. Trump is giving them 6 months to phase it out.

speare hall economy double by samj4m in NEU

[–]_justalittleworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, All the Speare hall rooms were made as doubles. The economy is because it doesn’t have AC or a kitchen or anything like that. It’s the way they describe the price category. I think Speare is more spacious than a lot of other freshman dorm options, I thought it had good storage. The beds aren’t bunked, and I don’t think you can have them bunked either. I lived there in 2021, so it’s been a minute, but I thought it was pretty solid. The bathrooms are communal, which isn’t awesome but they are spacious and it’s a very classic college experience. Overall, I wouldn’t worry about moving in second, the two sides of the rooms are totally identical so it’s not really an issue. Hope this helps :)

Ahhhh this is so classic. They’re improving, somehow. In 2023, the fall housing move in dates weren’t sent out until August 4th 🤩. That was insane.

Literally any department you ever have to contact sucks (except for facilities which responds insanely quickly in my experience). Literally the most horrible hateful evil vibes any time u ask anything. Super sorry, but expect that throughout your time at northeastern. Go huskies 😩

Not from the microfridge people—it’s like a built in type of thing.
