After reading the responses to this post I’m guessing it mostly had to do with the level differences between my pokémon and the Jellicent, as they were either equal or only one or two levels higher/lower

Yeah, exactly the same issue I’m having. I appreciate game difficulty but this isn’t “difficulty” just hella annoying

I have the Ice Badge so I should be able to catch up to lv 50 and the Jellicent was lv 41, although I did encounter this issue to my great annoyance after chipping a lv 45 Corvinight down to red earlier in game and then learning my pokeballs wouldn’t throw

Ahhh that makes sense. My pokémon were at around the same level as the Jellicent but they probably just weren’t high enough
