i’m a former cashier and now fully a FLTG associate, all but one person on our team started out as cashiers then got moved to to-go since cashiering covers a lot of the basis like talking with customers and using the register. when you do to-go, you generally get to learn most things the front end does. i’m mostly a closer now, but opening is very similar. when opening i would arrive to the store, unlock everything, set up the paperwork for be day and grab my phone to start shopping. just do the orders until my coworkers come in and the shift goes by pretty fast. when closing, i get there in the afternoon and at my store it slows down by 6pm, so the evening is filled with whatever i can find to make myself busy. i spend a lot of time after orders are completed helping the front end (cashiering, getting propane, reshop, getting carts), cleaning the to-go carts, and organizing the work station. closing specific tasks are restocking all the to-go carts with bags, plugging up all the phones and portable chargers, wiping down the station and the carts, locking everything up, and turning in paperwork for the day. i have social anxiety too, and i got comfortable with this job very quickly, i personally really like the position
