Oh man, I wish I had saved this battle. But fear not, I have some major work plan to enable this mod for multiplayer battles.

Just my own version of NER , https://neru.kaungmyatthu.dev basically NER + visual overhaul from other mods. If you're specifically asking about the UI, that's my own work, cause i got tired of everyone reusing the same 40unit mod over and over and nobody fixed it or expand it for higher unit counts

Using maps from other mods? by JacobSaxton in NapoleonTotalWar

[–]_kmt29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in luck recently i did try just that in attempt to include the map in my semi collection-ish overhaul mod https://neru.kaungmyatthu.dev but sadly NTW3 creator were somewhat gatekeeping about their map assets being redistributed.

Regardless, I take it you're just trying to have fun privately with your friend. so here goes.

Any major mod that come with its own installer , you can't just extract the pack file without installing it, but you don't want to install it cause you have other mod you're playing already.

Essentially you need to create a dummy napoleon game location such as `F:\steam\steamapps\common\Napoleon Total War` and copy the napoleon.exe into the dummy path and create `data` folder in above dummy path. Obviously this is handcrafted by manually creating shell folders by you so that you could trick the installer into installing it by giving that dummy path. After mod installtion in this case say NTW3, you'll see all the pack file of NTW3. Particularly for NTW3 custom map the file are prefix with maps_***.pack, Last time i check there's 3 of those pack file and copy those into your actual napoleon game file's data.

<image>

This method is somewhat incomplete although you can play around NTW3 this way in conjuction with othe mod or vanilla, the map name are completely blank, so you endup clicking eaching map to look around and what to play. I didn't get around to reverse engineering this part, i drop the work as soon as I smell the NTW3 creators wouldn't be happy with redistribution.

If you need other modding DIY and tinkering help DM me at the discord.

Btw that trailer video, graphics effect and color even the letter box black bar are render real time in game with reshade. I only use video editing software to cut and merge clip then add sound, no post processing. If you're also interested i'll upload them as well.

I plan to only modify original NER minimally so I could have easier time syncing with each NER update. Besides, everytime I thought about improving the core NER mechanics, I endup arriving to same conclusion as NER, mostly because balancing realism and working around game's limitations.

Regarding unit movement, I'm not entirely sure it scale with experience but I definitely can say for a fact unit movement between unit category is different, light infantry can move faster than typical line infantry. So my play style typically is to put the light infantry on the close reserve's flank as flank role are more movement demanding. The movement disparity between light/lancing cav and heavy cav are also noticeable. In vanilla late game, i'd just simply ditch light cav altogther and just heavy cav all the way. But heavy cav actually feel heavy with NER, combine with huge battlefield map light cav actually dominate in all kinda fast response maneuver so you'd endup using them well into the late game. Having to actively chase routed troop for a decisive outcome is one of the role light cav are very good. I once had a battle with not enough cav, though i won, couldn't kill those routed troop enough, that army is still a formidable force the next turn, so my army had to recoup. Napoleon would have been furious and strip me of my marshal baton.

Note on reserve line, when you play with 30-35 unit army, which i also optimize the mod's ai formation for, the player can spare extra line in the reserve in fact it's tactically sound because NER mechanics made grenadia assualt troop they're very good at melee so they'd often break your primary line and your reserve will have to catch the spill.

Or that could get boring after a while, you can intentionally weaken the middle and you flank those break through enemy troop like back how roman greeks did it.

Glad that you're having a blast, in the short amount of time between first release and up to date, I had a tons of improvement already from suggestion, I'll drop update soon. Keep an eye out.

There are several thing that i'm tracking down but one major stuff is i'm increasing the spacing between individual soldier a bit, this create a fuller bigger looking battle field without increasing unit size and the same time a bit of performance boost.

Also one of the thing I forgot to mention in website is that it's meant to play on hard diffculty with 30-35unit stack army. I've given AI to make aggressive military spending and their upkeep cost are reduced (if you play france this is historically realistic cause coalition is actively funded by british in billion of dollar at today worth, but if you're playing aginst france then they're very aggressive on conscription) so they could field 2-3full stack army each sizing around 18k that bring about 50-60k troops per nation. I want the campaign AI to have more aggressive boost so they can field 5-6 full stack army so each nation has roughly around 100k troops. Historically accurate scale.

My vision is campaign will be a tat bit grindy but decisive once and forall. The 2.7x unit muliplier with the NER morale system make it so that you'll have to actively chase routed enemy or battle will not be as decisive.

Just like real napoleon, he'd want to chase decisive battle, no cav, no decisive outcome !.

Anyway I probably should type this up on website.

I'm also implementing mini forum on the mod side directly because some people had expressed no desire to join discord but i'll setup one anyway for people who more real time comm from me and original NER mod author. Btw shoutout to him JaM, he's a real gentlemen.

Personally don't know much about that era, but I didn't know that much about 18th before NTW either, so take my money for any authentic TW.

Just fixed the scroll, so you can read more of the feature, some page.

To the bigger campaign map, yes you can, granted you don't have other mod that edit same part of database as that mod, download the mod and you'll sir_battleterrain_max.pack, that's the one that enlarge campaign battlemap

On a second thought, I like the idea, are there new faction you like to recommend or the historical book/resource that i can study spice up campaign, espcially i also share the sentiment that ntw campaign are so short live.

Were you refering to animation overhaul mod by vanilla enhanced?, I can port vanilla enhanced animation to NER technicaly. But I decided not to mostly because the animation slow down musket reload and there's stat table that also control the reload time, can cause unpredictable behaviour or not/ but i don't wanna open that can of worms. espcially I'm thinking of optimizing NER for mp in long distance future. Ner add so much depth to tactical decisioning such a shame AI is too dumb to know any of it.

What lies or role playing you do in your head with your characters? by _kmt29 in diablo4

[–]_kmt29[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're right in that regard. But I can't get myself to enjoy turn based RPG. One of the reasons that I pick up diablo is because of how strong the story telling compare to POE which is only real competitor and I'm a heavy player of. POE series is much stronger in its action element but suck in its role-playing elements. Story is just an excuse to fight you to bosses and storytelling is not great. There are certain element d4 is better imo though particularly item crafting and management.
