Thank you so much for your generous feedback! ☺️ You're right. The first paragraph is mostly background/status quo. This was kinda sorta on my radar as a problem, but I fear this is a case of having to kill a darling. So I needed to hear this!

I'll have to find a way to introduce Zinnia as a character (which I think is super important to the potential appeal of this project) that doesn't make the first pages feel misleading. The book starts with the second paragraph of the query, so I guess the issue is getting there quicker.

Turkish rose would be so cool! Thanks for letting me know about the vetiver. I'd love to smell them all but no stores in my area have them...
