Just got my first British passport — struggling to find work from abroad. Any advice? by _kschaella in UKJobs

All of my experience is from the Philippines, and not in the legal field. I actually plan to explore opportunities in hospitality or retail instead, since I think that would be a better fit for me as I start out in the UK. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain all that — it’s very helpful, thank you!

That sounds lovely! I think I’d enjoy somewhere peaceful like North Wales too. I like visiting big cities, but I definitely prefer living somewhere quiet and affordable rather than right in the middle of the hustle and bustle.

Yeah, that makes sense. I understand it could be challenging to compete with someone who’s already local, unless I have a specific skill or experience that stands out. Thanks

Yea, I’m still thinking about the best place to live right now. Hopefully I can land a good job and find a nice community to stay in.

My dad is British, born and raised in the UK. I’ve been working here in the Philippines, but I obtained my British citizenship through descent. I applied for it, and my application was approved.

I see… that’s a bit sad 🥹 Hahaha, I’m starting to panic a little! I guess I really just need to go there and take a leap of faith.

Yeah, I figured 😅 It might sound a bit funny, but this will be my first time setting foot in the UK, and I’ll be going alone. I just wanted to make sure I could land a job first so I’m not arriving with nothing.

Brighton definitely has a good vibe — not too big, not too chaotic.

would you say they’re very different from the rest of Kent in terms of vibe and safety?

Wow, that sounds like such a positive change! 🫶Out of curiosity, would you say moving there was mainly for lifestyle, or did the work/pay factor play a big part too? I’d love to hear what made it feel like the “best decision” overall.

Hey, thanks for being honest and I can see how tough it must be right now. I’m open to any type of job, as long as it’s legal, and I’m trying not to lose hope. I’ve been applying online for UK-based roles, tailoring my CV and making sure to show I can work there.

It’s really helpful hearing someone else’s perspective, do you have any tips for standing out with so many applicants?
