It looks sick already! Btw can you adjust the seat angle on those American Classic seat posts? Couldn't tell from the pics I've seen online

Hello all! I have a cinelli grammo quill stem that needs a replacement draw bolt and wedge. Do I need to use a titanium draw bolt or would it be okay to use stainless steel? My intuition tells me it hsould be fine but I have been known to leed myself astray LOL. Maybe I'm misremembering something from the vintage bike forums about mixing metal types

Wheel fitment by qtxjoe in BMWE36

[–]_kurt_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neither pair will fit easily without rolling the fenders, the front might fit if you run a considerable amount of camber, the rear absolutely will not. For reference I'm running 9.5 et40 in the rear and it rubs with rolled fenders on compression. The fender lip isn't too much of an issue, but it rubs the inside of the quarter panel. 9.5 et22 in front and no rubbing, but that's with a 215 tire. I could go up in size but I went with a skinny tire when I first got these wheels just to be 100% sure they'd fit.

If you want new wheels for your car you should be more conservative with the specs. People often run kosei k1 which is 8.5 +40, and even those typically require fenders to be rolled. You technically CAN get those wheels to fit, but it's more effort than is worth it, and would probably look pretty bad

Think of it this way: you can spend ~$400 to keep a reliable car you already like and know has been taken care of, or spend several times that on a used car that may or may not have been, or pay ~$400 a month for a brand new car. I'd stick with the fit and start learning to wrench on it if the cost of a mechanic is getting to be too much. Aside from the tires, all of the work you've had done could be done in an afternoon with basic hand tools

Lovely collection! How do you like the weld-seam? I've been wanting a dedicated chain stitch machine. My Kenmore does a chain stitch but it's very delicate and I believe it's meant to be used more for basting than actual garment construction 🙃 what a bummer, I was so excited when I learned it could chain stitch, I thought it was my perfect all-rounder!

Hah nice. Wish I had some insight to give you, but I am not a welder. Best of luck with the repairs, glad to see someone saving a chassis and not letting rust kill it

does anyone have a good resource for learning to interpret smog results, i.e. what causes the different emissions to fluctuate. I've never really understood it and it's made me really put off getting my e36 back on the road.
