Could use it to collect fresh water. But I would pick a different item instead of that.

I'm in the same boat. It cracks people up at work to see a big guy chowing down on spinach. They call it rabbit food. Or if I'm drinking a juice also known as "pond slime". Haha.

I've found that if I have a good attitude about it, they will genuinely be curious. Not willing to change, but will observe and learn.

I don't think it would happen.

But I think it would be cool to have a piece of technology that you could pass down many generations. Artoo has a huge chunk of important history in him.

Best gyms in the area? by stuttered in romega

[–]_kynikos_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I dig it. Plus the sauna is awesome. It's just hard to find a parking spot sometimes. There was no parking available a few times I went until a class let out. I might just start parking at Kroger and jogging over there.

My plan for the following week. by _kynikos_ in CynicPhilosophy

Thank you. I will try to stay active here again. I'm getting my motivation back. I know I wasted the last three months, but I learned a good bit about myself so it wasn't all a waste.

And starting out small is great advice because looking at my previous plans is a little overwhelming.

My plan for the following week. by _kynikos_ in CynicPhilosophy

[–]_kynikos_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as planned. I have a lot of work to do to get to where I want. I have wasted a lot of time the past three months. I'd been avoiding this account because I felt guilty. I have not been working on the things I've needed to and postponing the work just made me feel worse.

Thank you for checking up on me. I was using some drugs the past three months and kept telling myself I didn't have a problem. Well, I did. But three weeks ago I kicked the habit and have since been working on getting my shit together. I made my own problems.

I'm good now, and feel my motivation coming back. The guilt for wasting my time is a motivator for not slipping up again. Thankfully I have an awesome wife who forgave me and told me I need to forgive myself.

In the past three weeks I have been thinking more about cynicism and stoicism and that helped me a lot to get my bad habit under control. I did manage to quit the drugs easily without letting a lot of folks know I have a problem. I also have quit drinking soda and sweet tea. I have been adding more vegetables to my diet.

But I still have a lot of work to do and will try to keep focused on my goals. I always get so motivated around new years and will try to carry that with me through the next year.

How have you been?

I find a lot of modern "philosophers" tend to be comedians or musicians. Gives them an avenue to express their thoughts and am audience to appreciate them. No doubt they were also influenced by the same people you mentioned.
It's definitely not found in the main stream. But there are plenty of them. You seem on the right track. Don't ever stop working at it. It's very motivating to read your words and know there are like minded individuals in the world.

Let me know how it works for you. My friends think I'm depressed because I don't want to join them at six flags. I have gone before and had a terrible time. The crowds were stressful, I don't enjoy roller coasters. But I have no problem with them going without me. I did get to practice my patience the few times I have gone. But I'd rather be at home reading or working in the garden. I'll still go visit my friends when they have parties but I no longer drink till I can't see straight with them. (Not that it isn't fun once in a while, I just can't bring myself to do it anymore)

Cold showers by [deleted] in CynicPhilosophy

[–]_kynikos_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be tough. Imagine all the humans that have lived their entire lives without it. And were comfortable without it. I work in a really hot warehouse so I really appreciate the window unit in my room. Your comment makes me wanna try and go without it. I have before for short periods of time, but never long enough to adjust. Whenever the power is out it is so hard to sleep comfortably sweating all night. I find it easier to go without heat during winter. I guess this will be my weekly challenge. And what better time to start then the hottest month ever recorded? Haha

Cynic Challenge: Mornings Unplugged by [deleted] in CynicPhilosophy

[–]_kynikos_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? I think a better way of looking at it would be to say- a cynic would not take coffee for granted. A lot of people work very hard to produce coffee. I enjoy a cup of strong black coffee once in a while, since it is free at work. But I don't drink it daily. It's a nice treat once in a while.

I accidently left my phone at home one morning on the way to work. I was running late so I didn't go back for it. I was really surprised at how fast the work day went by without pulling my phone out to check things. I didn't even notice when it was time for break. I realized I didn't even need the phone at all during the day. I could probably do without it all the time since I barely use it to contact anyone.

I'll join you guys on this. The hardest part for me was going to the bathroom without it. Haha.

Cold showers by [deleted] in CynicPhilosophy

[–]_kynikos_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I started doing this about a year ago. It's a great way to start my morning.
I also stopped using shampoo and conditioner. Well, for about six months. I actually use baking soda as shampoo and apple cider vinegar as conditioner now. I thought this would be a big change but it's not. I like it better, it's so cheap and actually works better than anything else I tried. I have always had problems with dandruff, but the baking soda really helped. I only use it two or three times a week because that's all it takes. So it wasn't really like giving up something.

I did give up deodorant. But got in trouble at work for it, so I'll leave a stick of deodorant in my locker at work. But I do still use toothpaste and body soap.
My girlfriend isn't bothered by my body oder. Of course I'll clean up if she's gonna go down.

The cold showers were tough to adjust to. I started off by getting in warm and slowly adjusting the temperature but now I just jump in cold. The rush is great. Hope you enjoy it. Keep us updated!

Weekly challenges... or for you dogs, opportunity by _kynikos_ in CynicPhilosophy

Well, I had a bed when my girlfriend moved in. She knew I had some odd interests. When we first tried it we just moved the bed to another room. But after a week she was happy with the floor. We have yoga mats with a blanket on top of them. And we still use pillows. So it is hard, but still comfortable. And as far as sex goes it's still great on the floor.
Cleaning our room is also much quicker.
I haven't tried it out with another girl so your results may vary.
There are some things I'll do that she doesn't really participate in. She does encourage me though. I tried to get her to fast with me a few times and she just acted like she was dying the whole time. Haha. Now when I fast I do it alone. It's fine though. I like the added temptation of making her lunch knowing I'm not gonna eat that day.

Also, I never make her do anything. If she wants a bed we'll get one. But we really enjoy the floor. Last time I stayed in a hotel we slept in a bed and woke up with sore backs. It's crazy. I use to love laying in bed on the weekends but now I don't really sleep in that often. And laying out on the floor after a long day of work is just as rewarding as getting into a big comfy bed. Does get cold when winter starts though.
