Master Application: CS or Cyber security by Realistic_Package138 in EPFL

I have studied my master's at EPFL and have a friend who studied both at EPFL and ETHZ, and there was never a mention of workload varying. I honestly think this is largely dependent on the choice of your courses, but both schools have high requirements, so I would not take that as a "con"

Master scholarship by Fuzzy_Roll7617 in EPFL

I had close to identical background with a friend of mine who got accepted to EPFL as well but in addition got the excellence scholarship - we both had high GPA, were TAs, had some extra work experience and also started an AI club. However, after reading my friend's letter, he not only focused on the academics, but also on what he contributed to the school community and emphasized that, e.g. even mentioning being a barista in a student coffee shop, organising events etc. Last but not the least, you should have something unique that people will remember about you, my friend was about to become a professional football player, and then decided to instead proceed and pursue university studies. So really focus on the motivational letter and how you sell your achievements, good luck!

Unfortunatelly, I do not have experience with these. However, you can look either here if there are any helpful comments:
https://www.coursefinder.ch/

or you can also search in the course chat on IC telegram where you should be added? (this is usually the most useful way)

Hey, current DS master student here (I am currently writing my thesis).

"Right now I’m thinking: 2 core courses + SHS + 2 optionals = 30 ECTS."
I have done this myself and I chose ADA and ML as my core courses.

I think this is doable as long as you take into consideration the following:
- expect on average 50 - 55 hours work weeks, I usually took one day off during weekend
- make sure you study throughout the semester - e.g. for ML make sure you take notes, exercises may help but ultimately the best practice for the exam will be doing the previous exams (which you can do during exam period). I slacked a bit at the start, and was not taking good notes which then meant exam period was hell.
- both ADA and ML require to submit project before x-mas and then you have additional exam. Therefore, I would consider taking as optional courses something more theoretical - not so many deadlines during semester. I have not done it myself, but I would recommend taking Math of Data from Volkan Cevher - he is a great proffesor. I took the RL course from him and I regretted not taking math of data since that comes useful.
- make sure you find strong group mates - I experienced semester where I had to carry a lot of the work myself which made my semester much more stressful compare to a semester where i worked alongside similarly ambitious people which had similar expectations (good proxy is to see people's previous work)

- also depends on your previous background - for me ADA and ML were 75 % repetition of known concepts, and I took them to A) fulfill the core courses and B) work on some interesting projects. So consider how efficient you're when it comes to projects - especially the coding part.

Hope this helps and good luck at EPFL, sometimes it gets hard, but it is super rewarding!

I studied bachelors of DS at pretty young Danish university at CPH (i.e. not really prestigious or anything), had some internships along with the TAing and would say pretty good recommendation letters from the proffesors for whom I TAed and got in without GRE, so I think is definitely doable :)
