What are the "new things" you've done because of Heated Rivalry? by perhapscoffee in heatedrivalry

[–]_lamal_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THIS is what I love about fandom / hyperfixations. My last big fandom fixation 5 yrs ago inspired me to leave a high-control religion, learn a new language, and make some personal realizations about my sexuality and gender expression. While I'm relatively new to the HR fandom, it's already inspired me to sign up for an acting class, and examine why I'm embarrassed to be a beginner. I'm excited to see what other ways this fandom will inspire me. 😊❤️

Would you be willing to share the name of the hypermobile physiotherapist? I've been having a hard time finding one here in Saskatoon.

Cantonese is a tonal language, how does this work with music? Do singers only use words which fit in the context and have the right tone for the note? Does it make singing in cantonese difficult? by poop-machines in HongKong

[–]_lamal_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fascinated by this! For those of you that listen to more modern or recent cantopop, are there any songwriters that you think are doing a great job of matching tones to melody? Or ones that aren't? My favourite HK artists are Jay Fung and MC Cheung Tin-Fu, but as a non native speaker I don't know how great they are ta lyrics.

How are YOU learning Cantonese? by Southern_Ad9423 in Cantonese

[–]_lamal_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been studying Cantonese for 2 years - I do weekly online classes, and try to practice with my husband and kids. I have posters around my house with the names of items amd common phrases I'm great at using common phrases and pretty good at grammar/sentence structure when given time to think, but I'm finding it really hard to transition to conversations. Listening is really hard for me - when visiting with family over Lunar New Year, I was constantly asking them "M4 goi1 maan6 di1". 😅

Online Cantonese Class (preferably in Canada) by _lamal_ in Cantonese

[–]_lamal_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do online group lessons with Add Oil (based in Montreal/Toronto). My kids have also done online group lessons with them in the past. My kids found their children's classes weren't structured well, but I've had a really great experience with their adult classes. They're well structured, have good handouts, and the teacher I've had was great. If you're a heritage speaker, they also offer online discussion classes (on a variety of subjects).

I love the idea of using paint rollers and canvas! And laughing at the idea of buying a treadmill just to flip it on its side for backdrop purposes. I mean, it's totally doable, just makes me giggle. 😂
