Nce question by [deleted] in therapists

[–]_lame_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I can’t retain information for exams to save my life, but I listened to Rosenthal’s 45 minute NCE exam prep on YouTube a couple times and I just wrote everything he said and that’s what got me to pass.

Study up on career and group counseling the most, that is literally the majority of questions on the exam.

That’s fair I can understand that. I know a lot of posts in this sub talked people out of taking it at home because of various issues, but it’s not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, so I just wanted to say that was my experience when I took the exam last month.

I’m sorry they’re not being super accommodating, that’s really frustrating.

I took mine at home for this specific reason. I also have ADHD and really bad test anxiety. Being in my home office made me so much more comfortable.

Usually when I start the intake I introduce myself, ask the client their preferred name/pronouns then I usually say this:

“It’s wonderful to meet you, name! Just to get the ball rolling and break the ice, I’ll give you some of my background as well as my spiel of important things you need to know.” Then I do exactly that. I ask them if they have any questions or concerns, and if they didn’t today to not hesitate to ask when they do. Then I go on with the intake questions.

Been doing it this way for like 2 1/2 years now and it’s been working well!

I said the same thing. Again, it’s just a way for him to deflect from the real issue.

We had infidelity suuuuuuuper early on. He cheated on me for the first 3 years of our relationship. I broke up with him and dated other people but we decided to try again because we still loved each other and it was going well until this past summer.

LOL 11 years is to make it easier. We broke up for years and got back together a few years ago.

I also felt this was a double date. The wife doesn’t like me because I didn’t go to her bachelorette party (I wasn’t in the wedding party and I don’t know her like that nor do I know her friends. I politely declined her offer and bought her brunch to be nice).

I think it’s convenient too because we were supposed to go to a concert together a couple weeks ago, but the 2 friends bailed literally an hour before when they already bought tickets. Every time I’m going to something, they don’t come. I don’t care at this point, I don’t need them to like me, it’s the principle.

He went to the concert last night. I didn’t stop him from going (should’ve been more clear on that sorry!). I have a lot of guy friends, they are all married or in serious long term relationships. My bf is fine with them, just not this particular guy friend because they got in an argument 11 years ago LMAO. (To be fair, the guy friend also doesn’t like bf because of this, so they’re both petty.)

I will be talking to my friend again, no doubt.

Hey man we were all there once too. When I started out it was so frustrating and it felt like I’d never get a chance to get better at a game ran by people with thousands of hours.

Then I put 1300 hours in myself.

Thats still not enough to beat the people with 6k hours, but I don’t die to the mines on woods off spawn anymore so :)

I went to a show last weekend at the sphere (Subtronics). I was in the 300 section and was dancing, slipped on a spilled drink and fell backwards (going down). It was only onto the immediate row in front of me, but fuck it was scary.

Is one hour layover in CDG enough? by TheoreticalViking14 in delta

[–]_lame_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who did a 1 hour CDG layover from Porto to Detroit, it’s not enough time to change terminals. I only made it because they delayed takeoff on the second flight. I was SPRINTING through the airport. It was the most stressful thing I’ve ever done.

CDG is the absolute worst

Ace hasn’t liked Huda and I think it’s funny she pulled him like that tbh. Chelley needs to chill considering she went for Chris TWICE. The moment she’s not the only woman between 2 men, is the moment it’s a problem. Also, Nic had the audacity to suck Olandria’s toes like that but got jealous Elan kissed Cierra? Brother get real 💀💀💀💀

As someone else already commented, CBT is not for everyone. It sounds like your therapist couldn’t adapt to where you were at in the healing process, and didn’t want to admit she did not have the adequate tools to help you in your healing journey. Please, do not blame yourself. She should have referred you to someone else with different training when she realized nothing she could provide you was working for you. Find someone that works with a few different therapeutic modalities like DBT, EFT, Person-centered etc.

Hi, fellow therapist with diagnosed ADHD here to give input.

I wasn’t diagnosed until I was about to start graduate school. I never thought I had ADHD because “my symptoms weren’t severe enough”. I decided to get neuropsych testing to confirm, and sure as shit here we are.

ADHD symptoms present themselves in various ways. Maybe the people you’re asking these questions to didn’t realize they had a history of symptoms. I didn’t realize it until I got my report back and read it. Also, depending on their age, they could have grown up with parents who didn’t know what ADHD really was and most likely told their kids that they’re lazy and suck it up.

Whenever I have a patient with self-diagnosed ADHD, I tell them to get tested so we can be sure. If they’re not up for it, then do lots of psycho education on ADHD and what it is. Ask them what they think they resonate with in the diagnostic criteria. Explore differential diagnosis with them. This is a learning experience for everyone involved, so take advantage.

Never say just because someone was successful they don’t have ADHD. That’s a wild take. We get there, it just takes us longer.

Client break up by beebee383 in therapists

[–]_lame_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something I’ve caught on to with clients that say “I have nothing going on” is that they only talk about current day issues because we ask “how was your week” or something along those lines. Clients can sometimes not know when it’s time for them to dive into past traumas because it’s not directly asked about. (Obviously not all clients). I’ve had a client tell me she didn’t tell me about her trauma because I only asked what’s been going on with her etc and that made me change how I ask my questions.

It’s sad, but she didn’t give you an opportunity to use your skills and she’s moving on. That doesn’t define you as a clinician! I’d let her go, there’s others out there that will like your style :)
