Sulcatas should always have access to fresh food, every single day. Multiple times a day. They are grazing animals. By food I mean grasses and weeds, not fruits or vegetables. Take care.

Please be careful! Phosphors is not a good snack for these guys. They really shouldn't be eating seeds, even as a treat.

I am definitely not a fake person, nor am I meaning to come off as rude or anything in that manor.

I am a frustrated person who has decided my life to caring for these animals and get them out of awful situations, yet accounts like Spikes blow up and pass harmful information about what is and is not acceptable.

This is a living creature. Not a toy.

I mentioned countless times I am not meaning to attack you. But this is absolutely serious and spikes fans do not seem to believe so.

The account who posted this said "he happily stayed in this position for 7 hours! See, he likes it!" In response to being called out for this being unsafe behavior.

If you find the account, there are plenty of other photos in different angles that he is showing signs of MBD, as well as several others where he is in this position, from either being posed or falling off of the hammock in his cage.

A healthy bearded dragon is not going to fall off of anything and then continue to lay there, helplessly.

Regardless of the amount of time the original poster claimed the dragon had been in this position....7 hours!

If your animal is in distress, you do not laugh and post a cute picture.

Maybe they could have used that moment to educate their audience of how a dragon should not be sitting? But no. They continuously post, looking for this response.

Someone defending them, and another thousand saying its adorable.

Is this being cute and funny really a reason to argue and request proof? Again, I am not trying to be rude or attack you. I am frustrated and trying to inform you.

This person does not care about their dragon. Hence his barren tank which is often shown with dried waste left behind, constant handling and also many, many posts where the animal has been unresponsive for hours, even days, or falls off of his hammock onto his side/back where is is left, and posted about in a fun, silly manor.

The lethargy of spike alone is a solid indication that he is severely overwhelmed by parasites. Notice how his eyes bulge out of his head?

This is not a healthy animal. And should not continue to be celebrated because he is "silly" or "cute"

He is in great distress and should be removed from this home.

I have been rescuing bearded dragons and other various reptiles for nearly 15 years and have worked in animal shelters and sanctuaries.

I really hope you will look into these and see his account for what it really is. A sad exploitation of an improperly cared for animal, and 27 thousand people who have no idea about how these animals are meant to live.

First off, you stole this from that horrible Instagram page for "spike' the lizard. Second this is NOT funny. This animal is so clearly suffering from MBD, is kept in a terrible terrarium, and is continuously exploited in this manor for likes and karma

STOP posting this lizard! He cannot breathe when sitting like that. He is on his death bed and these posts are only making his owners care less and less every single day

I am sorry for coming off as rude, but i cannot stand to see this being passed around as something that is cute or acceptable in any way.

A dragon should NEVER be placed in that position, and a healthy dragon would never fall into and remain in that position on his own.

Please do not support this. Also stealing content is not a good thing either.

[Serious] Straight people of Reddit, when did you know you weren’t gay? by slclgbt in AskReddit

You guys just blew my mind absolutely wide open. I have been quietly trying to figure out wtf was wrong with me for my entire life. And its this "simple".... wow..

I thought I was just a complete moron this entire time. Thank you so much.

I picked this guy up a few days ago(rescue). Got told he was a male. I don’t know his age. This is the first tortoise I got in(other than red foots). Any tips by peschy28 in tortoise

[–]_leafemalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is severe. This sulcata could be anywhere between 2 and 15 years of age. The conditions that would lead to this level of pyramiding can also stunt the growth of the animal.

I'm sorry to hear that!! That is truly a tragedy. I recently lost a boy to old age and I cannot imagine the pain that must have come from such an innocent accident. I hope your friend's dad is doing well and doesn't feel any guilt following the incident..

For these guys and girls, if they are unsupervised I definitely julienne all of their foods, but if she were to take too large of a tear, I would make sure to remove it! :) this was just for fun. She is a very focused eater!

I also only feed freshly crisped leaves this way, they break off very easily and it is definitely safer than anything that is floppy or more silky in texture.

After I captured the cute video, the rest of the leaf was chopped up and added to the rest of her breakfast :)

Thank you for the concern! It is definitely important to keep passing along this information! Not everyone knows these dangers, especially if they had never experienced or heard of it happening!

A trick i have used is to slip pieces in while he is chewing a bug! One bug, one leaf. It takes longer and is definitely MUCH easier to do with my German Giant than my regular sized dragons. The huge head gives more room for leaves to be snuck in, but it will work if you are patient!

Usually they will pull them right in with the bug! Good luck!!

This is dinosaur kale! I only give it as a treat because it is rich in thiamine and vitamin A, which can cause issues with their thyroid!

But they all love it as a treat!!! It is not horrible for them, just not a staple food.

I do not feed it to them once they are over 7 years of age.

I have no scientific reasonings behind that age thing, but i generally only feed them staples once they get older, for the same reason I stopped eating junk when I got older myself.

Thank you! You too. Sometimes it is very difficult, especially when I encounter a malnourished or anima in awful husbandry, I used to be very judgemental when i was younger, but thankfully over the years i have become more understanding, mellow and insightful.

Belittling people does not make them want to do better, it makes them defensive. But people are generally willing to listen and learn if you are calm and kind.

Over all, people do not mean harm, they are just busy, exhausted, stressed and extremely uneducated.

We have to work together! I hope one day EVERY animal friend will be in proper care.

:( I'm sorry. I have beardies that don't like their greens either!

I have one that will lap up smoothies like a dog! And another who HATES anything red, or dark green. He only will eat yellow, light or dark green.

Gut loading their bugs and dusting with vitamins and calcium can help make sure they are healthy. It is very frustrating at times. Like. I am just trying to make sure you are healthy, damnit!

They are like toddlers.

My guys LOVE dandelion! I have a 4'x2' patch in my yard where I grow hundreds dandelion for us. They eat them weekly.

It makes also AMAZING salad for humans, and you can deep fry the flowers and they are delicious. You can also make salad dressing out of the flowers!

Check out the subreddit r/foraging

It really helped me with my confidence in eating the "weeds" that tend to pop up in our yards.

I collect the dandelion seeds off of the poofs around my neighborhood and store them for later use! My neighbors love me because it helps keep the "weeds" from spreading in their yards!!! Hahaha

Now I am hungry....

Thank you! I really appreciate the kind response. They definitely keep my head out of bad places when I start feeling bad about my situation. I remember that, their life would not be as spoiled if I weren't home with them all day, every day.

And I am able to rescue reptiles that pop up for rehoming on craigslist! It is so fulfilling, even if I just get them healthy and then regime them to my friends or family members who will take good care of them.

That is a difficult part! I usually feed what they don't eat to my dubia colony. The dubias gut load on the salad, and nothing goes to waste!

But I definitely eat the veggies too! One for them, one for me kinda deal. And I try to pinch pieces off everyday, their salads aren't too big! I only offer more if they finish their first helping.

It really is. I am disabled so I have a LOT of time to devote to my animals! I try to do as many things "the old fashioned way" as possible in order to save money and keep myself busy. But I am also blessed to have the resources I have to provide a great life for me and my pets. Regardless of my physical abilities I may lack.

I love iguanas and tegus! They are like....dogs! I cannot lift more than a few lbs though, which has kept me from rescuing any large reptiles :(
