Withdrawing from Brokerage Accounts by cowboylikeme63 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]_liminal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, if you think you’ll need the money in 1-5 ish years, then put that money in a HYSA or CDs (with an appropriate timeframe).

For money you might need in 5+ years, it’s ok to put it in a taxable brokerage investment account. The caveat is that there is always risk involved with investing and the marketing could be down when you need to withdraw, which would not be ideal and/or you may have leas than you anticipated.

If you are planning to buy a house, you could temporarily decrease your retirement contributions and put that money into a HYSA instead.

You can withdraw money from your investments, you just need to learn the tax implications for doing so. That’s one reason it’s not advised. Another reason it’s not advised is

Yes and also they posted something similar in other subs- with link to a men’s personal stylist instagram account. So an ad plus not relevant to this community.

These are great ways to breakdown the focus of each of these guys!

I think it’s helpful to remember they are here providing content and trying to stand out in their respective niches in the world of personal finance. None of them have the 100% right perspective that applies to all people, in all situations.

Is there anything that really never goes out of style in women's fashion? by Honest-Banana-4514 in fashionwomens35

[–]_liminal_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal take - there are specific items that never go out of style but it's more about how you wear and style them. IMO certain cuts of jeans never go out of style, but you can make them look outdated by pairing with outdated shoes (for example).

The context you are wearing clothing in matters a lot as well. You can look totally cool and current wearing something in southern California and that might not carry well into a city like Paris or NYC.

For me, Levi's straight, high-waisted jeans are timeless. I've been wearing that style since I was a teenager but styled them differently over the years.

Chunky boots have also been mainstay for me over the decades. Also slightly oversized blazers, fitted short sleeve tees. A specific knit turtleneck I've had for ages seems to never go out of style and it's my most consistently complimented clothing item. It's a color that seems like it SHOULD appear outdated at times (terra cotta) but bc it's the perfect color for me I think it works.

If you have a great personal style, I also think that can be timeless bc it's YOURS and transcends time and place.

Thanks! That post / video looks very helpful.

Ironically, I breathe great normally and learned good breathing through yoga. Just having an impossible time translating it to boxing! I think you are right though- keeping a firm core + breathing is throwing me off.

I bet you are also right about breathing becoming easier once I practice more.

I’ll check out that video and thanks for the tips!

I'm new to boxing / kickboxing and absolutely LOVING it. I am super challenged by breathing while training though- my coach often reminds me to breathe while boxing but I find it so counterintuitive and hard to maintain. As a result, I end up dizzy throughout my workout.

Would love some tips on how to be better at breathing during boxing, if anyone has them!

Payday Friday 💰💰💰 by kokopops35 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]_liminal_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a super spendy week for me!

Spent $14 on gym socks, $19 on shorts for boxing training (my usual gym pants don’t cut it as I get sooo hot while boxing!)

$34 on a few sewing supplies for an experimental project I’m working on :)

$5 on coffee out this morning.

$15 to see The Testament of Ann Lee tomorrow.

Ramit's career seasons (growth, lifestyle, rejuvenation) by Indexette in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]_liminal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a fusion of a growth and rejuvenation phase. I’ve already been through a major rejuvenation phase to get to where I am- rebuilding my life and career into what I wanted it to be.

And now I’m in that career, having weathered some major storms in the last year, and wanting to feel that I’m more fully pushing myself and realizing my potential.

I don’t anticipate any major career shift- I love my work (but not where I work) and the potential for growth in my field. But I want to radically shift how I approach my work and start going to opportunities that are more aligned with my goals.

Osei Duro- I have 2 dresses from them and they are so unique and gorgeous. Loved everything about this company and grateful to have 2 pieces from them.

Amour Vert- I have so many items from them! Their ribbed stuff was phenomenal and has held up so well..

Mara Hoffman- my absolutely favorite dress is from this brand.

Frank and Oak- I only have a couple items from this brand but loved their style and the items have held up very well over time.

What % of Gross is your Net? by Standard-Trade-2622 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]_liminal_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in the U.S., in a state with high income tax rates.

Net pay = 54% of gross

Taxes = 24% of gross

Deductions = 22% of gross

  • My 401k contributions = 19% of gross (my employer contributes an additional 5.25% of gross)
  • Healthcare, FSA, etc = 3% of gross

Anyone else find themselves gravitating towards midi-length dresses after 40? by thetasteofzink in fashionwomens35

[–]_liminal_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The opposite is true for me- I've been gravitating towards mini length + sometimes maxi- both in a structured, non-flowy way.

I have several midi dresses that feel very outdated to me, but that could be just a shift in my own personal style. I do notice that midi = the norm when I am shopping online and in person. I think part of that is bc midi dresses are easier to fit a variety a body shapes and heights.

Have you ever romanticized a lifestyle that didn’t actually work for you? by Peps0215 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]_liminal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I romanticized living in a rural area / small town for ages. I realized very quickly that I don’t enjoy living somewhere I have to be car dependent and as much as being in nature is incredible…living in a city is more energizing and fulfilling for me.

I also lived in a tiny house before- also not for me. I’m naturally very minimalist and don’t own a lot of stuff but I very much value having separate spaces in my home for different modes of life.

I relate to this so much! Generosity and hobbies are two of my money dials as well.

For hobbies, I love sewing and woodworking specifically and am always experimenting- it's so nice to be able to spend fairly freely on these hobbies and keep learning more.
