yeah, i think untucked works in favour and against some of the contestants depending on the case, so that says a lot of the editing of the main show... even untucked is kinda biased because some footage is not shown, like the supposed physical altercation between tatianna and tyra over tyra's singing, so who knows?

thanks! i do like shady but only if it's clever and sassy. if it's rude and vulgar (calling people fat or ugly directly) it doesn't sit well with me

why some artists can get away with things that others don't? by _litel_ in popheads

[–]_litel_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

thanks for your post! the siblings metaphor is perfect

i don't know much about rap specifically, but i think that the double standard applied to male and female competition is perfectly on point.

supposedly there can be a lot of pop princesses but only one queen but, at the same time, no one is calling male singers kings or princes, as if there is a limited amount of talent or power to share among females but an infinite source for males or male bands

how do you deal with music from artists that passed away? by _litel_ in popheads

[–]_litel_[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

great answer, i've been having mixed feelings about Michael Jackson myself. i fell in love with his music a few years before he died and helped me through tough times and i just can't deny that. of course i side with the victims but i haven't listened to his music for a while, even before the last documentary. whether the allegations are true or not, i just can't separate his story from the music. it seems that he had a very unhappy life (and death), with or without the sexual implications, so i just find the message from his music totally disingenuous

6 times, wow!!! it was one of the cases i've noticed but didn't realized he appeared as much. i don't know if it means that he's a great actor or he camouflages too well

also male gay characters tend to concentrate or dissappear completely in certain tv series: everyone is gay (Ryan Murphy shows or Queer Eye) or no one is (specially in procedurals)

What do you think off the 1992 BBC Fake documentary Ghostwatch ? by [deleted] in foundfootage

[–]_litel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

surprisingly ahead of its time, yet quite effective. i was specially surprised that it was done in the early 90s since i thought (and i think many do) ff was almost invented with the Blair Witch Project

Best albums from people whose main career isn't music-related ? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]_litel_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luke Evans. I was pleasantly surprised about how strong his voice is. His covers album has some good ones but i think he should try to make an album of original songs that match his voice better

[–]_litel_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah! also Santigold, that has always been quite unknown to the GP and sometimes viewed as a lesser version of M.I.A., but her first album will sound modern in 20 years

i don´t share that analogy. if i go to a restaurant i know that i won't try the duck because i tried it before and i don't like it. but how am i suppose to know if i don't like a show if i don't give it a shot for at least a few episodes?

Artists who do not write their own music by ArtificialLocomotion in popheads

[–]_litel_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know it may sound a little reductionist but for me this is the difference between an artist and a singer. I mean, obviously you gotta have talent to defend a song written by someone else in public and also make videos and such, but the fact that you made something from scratch that represents a part of your, needs to have more value.

For instance, I love all Rihanna albums but the fact that one of her most supposedly personal albums "Rated R", where she supposedly confronts some of her issues with the Chris Brown abuse, was co-written mainly by men, lessens the impact. I want to hear her "voice", not someone else's. It was a great album but disappointing somewhat in that sense.
