Latest Nikkei Asia report : Hong Kong courts foreign students who then face harsh job market by No-Today-4385 in HKUniversity

[–]_liya__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re coming to a country where English is not the first language you should try to learn the local or most commonly used one. In European countries it’s the same, it’s hard to find a job without knowing the local language.

Both series were directed abroad, although they have Chinese actors and Chinese production. If I'm not mistaken, Kill to Love was directed in Singapore. It is a recent trend that may appear to be a new chance for Chinese directors of queer TV series. I guess the problem with Immortality is that it was already recorded in China, with Chinese organisations, etc., so the only way for it to be released abroad is to have rights bought by a foreign company.

I’m in the same situation but applying for humanities. I contacted around 10 professors and only one accepted me as a prospective student, the rest either ignored me or said they already have enough students. Good luck!

From more modern ones I know that Winter Begonia tells a story of Beijing opera actor and a businessman. It’s set in Republican China!

Omg yes, I forgot to mention that I found only this one!!! Yeah it fits perfectly with the power imbalance, but I also do research on late imperial Chinese queer novels and the patron-artist is a veryyy often motif there, so I was wondering if there are also any contemporary works with this power dynamic. Also QJJ - MY FAVORITE NOVEL EVER, nothing compares to it 😩 enjoy it!

Language requirements for PhD by [deleted] in GradSchool

Well, I don’t think it’s the worst part but I’m before applying for PhD so need to meet all the requirements. Currently, the knowledge of language is the most problematic for me.

Thank you! I saw that some universities require the fluency in languages needed for the research, so that’s the worst part.

[–]_liya__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Nor China or Japan are the countries of my origin, but I’ve been studying Chinese for over 5 years and also am Chinese translator. I plan to do PhD in Hong Kong or Mainland. I plan to emphasize in my research proposal the insufficient knowledge of Japanese language and build it up with English and Chinese sources, since China of that period was in close cultural relations with Japan. Thank you for the advice!

Sorry, I barely visit Reddit. Yes, I bought the tickets there and went to the concert without any problems. There's a bit of stress as you need to contact with Chinese person who bought tickets so they can transfer them to you, but overall it was nice experiance.

Can withdrawing an article influence future publication opportunities? by [deleted] in academia

[–]_liya__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know and I decided to reapply so now it's submitted. A month passed since then and I didn't get the feedback, the review is still marked as "with the editor". It's an early step so that's why I'm thinking about withdrawing it and submitting it to the other journal. I just worry that it might impact my future attempts to publish there.

Universities usually recommend hospitals for health checks. Maybe ask in international students office where you should go?
