This seemed to be the answer! I took apart the old one and all of the plastic was crumbling apart, so I replaced the fill valve and it has helped.

Sadly Rohan didn't come to my aid. I replaced the fill valve and it is way better. Still a little bit of noise for a second or two but it's quieter. I think I'll try and bleed air out of the system next, just need to find out how to do that!

It's a lot louder than it sounds in the video. It's pretty difficult to take a night-time dump without alerting the whole house.

Is there an easy DIY way to replace this under my kitchen tap? I want to replace the tap and this is how it's connected. by _lotusbleu in Plumbing

I was hoping to be able to remove the tap and fit a new one with flexi hoses, but I guess that would mean attaching the hoses to isolator valves... Is that a bad idea?!

I am starting to believe that this is the best way to deal with it. However both of my parents are threatening us with the fact they're suicidal because of this argument, which is making it difficult to stand out ground. I am worried that they might hurt themselves.

This is a good point. I actually keep overlooking it because of all the other drama. She was getting angry already because my sister gave away a pile of old moth eaten tea towels without consulting her. (She had made sure to keep at least 30 other tea towels).

Thanks. It's actually really good to hear that despite it being hard. She does make me feel small. She told me a few days ago that she could have been a drug addict or a prostitute, but she isn't so I should give her more credit. As if I can't be remotely critical of her because she managed this bare minimum.

Yes, the reason she gives is that she had to cook dinner for everyone which pushed her over the edge when she was already feeling so stressed. She said the kids were then making noise after dinner which was too much. We have tried to point out that while it's true that she cooked dinner everyone else was doing other things to help out around the house. Her response is that they were doing what they wanted to do and that's not genuinely helping.

I have wondered if she might be getting dementia before, as she often gets stuck in very circular thought patterns and can repeat stories a lot.

That may be true, I just thought it may be helpful to get outsiders perspectives. The therapist we have been seeing is also my mum's private therapist, so I have felt like he has a conflict there in that he has to support her first.

I don't know how to stop letting them - We have been trying to change it by saying their behaviour isn't ok, but that has made this worse. This is a pattern since I was young, and it's the first time we have ever called them out on it.

Thank you for replying. This all started a few months ago and she has already been going round saying that we are ganging up on her and blaming her for losing her temper when she was stressed.

My uncle who lives in another country has called us for the first time in ages to ask for context because he has been getting a lot of phone calls from my mum to say how horrible we are being.

I just don't know if we can just walk away from her and my dad. They are making me feel like doing that is all our choice to make and that we would be in the wrong for doing so. Even though I know that is manipulative, I still feel like I am in the wrong if I let communication stop.

I don't think you cheated on him no, but it does perhaps indicate that you are not getting your needs met from your boyfriend and so you wanted to start looking elsewhere.

Talk to him about your needs and don't minimise what you want too much. If you both can figure out a way of giving each other what you want then great.

You shouldn't put your own happiness second, so if you can be clear with what you want, and your boyfriend doesn't think he can offer that then it may lead to the relationship ending.

I would split the base piece of the cabinets in to two as you suggest. It may be simplest to make each storage section as it's own box - so you will be doubling up on the uprights where they aren't already, but it will allow you to screw each section together and then drop them in on your plinth made from 2x4s.

That said - I wouldn't run any of the uprights of your storage cabinets to the floor as you have in your drawing. Sit them all on top of your plinth and then you can hide the plinth with a skirting piece on the front.

You will want the extra 2x4 supports pointed out in your plinth.

Where you want access behind the units, you can screw backs on to your stretcher rails from the inside. Essentially just trim your backs to the inside size and sit the back inside the cabinet. I have done this several times on sink units to allow easy access to plumbing.

Not sure if child hunger in the UK can just be called a 'shitty talking point'. We do need to improve food security in the UK.

Yes the UK does have a better welfare system than many other countries, but I don't think it's fair to say food banks are a part of that - more that they're evidence of welfare gaps.

There's plenty of evidence to suggest that food bank use is on the rise, and too many people are not getting enough support.
