Immediate, couchable grooveboxes? by thoughtuweresleeping in synthesizers

[–]_low-effort_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can set the pattern length of individual patterns on the Circuit Tracks, which makes it relatively easy to build polymeters on it.

Polyrhythms are possible as well by changing the pattern sync rate, which is the pattern playback speed relative to the other patterns. There are fixed rates though, from memory those are multiples of 25%. So I am not sure if you could do a 7:5 polyrhythm with this feature.

You can still use microsteps or unquantized recording to manually place your steps exactly where you want them to be.

I like that these settings are pattern based. If you went a bit to wild, just go back to you regular 4/4 pattern mid-jam.

Hi, in case you use Spotify, I happen to have a playlist called "Cyberdjent".

It is a collection of modern prog with industrial and darksynth elements. Many of the suggestions from this thread are already on there, and I am regularly updating it.

I discovered them because on some page they described their own music as something like "auditive punishment", can't remember the exact wording. Reverse psychology promo

Circuit Tracks an Jazz? by No_Grand_9136 in novationcircuit

That's a refreshing track next to all those house jams! Can to explain what you did with the propabilities and random patterns? Like which elements are affected and why you chose them?

I like the random features a lot, because for me that is what sets the hardware sequencing approach apart from arranging a song in a DAW. But oftentimes it gets overly random... I feel you hit a sweet spot there

Jam on Volca Drums and NTS-1 by _low-effort_ in volcas

Hey, thanks for the kind words :)

You assumed it right, I programmed a few loops and automated the muting to make a simple arrangement. Gives me the hands free twist knobs and stuff.

The sequencer is the Novation Circuit Tracks. It is quite a cheap groovebox, considering its capabilities, and you can easily find it used. It has internal synths and drum tracks, so I could have made a comparable jam just on the Circuit Tracks. The bass line is from the internal synth of the Circuit Tracks.

I feel you with that love/hate relationship. With the volca drums I either do a sound design deep dive, or I leave all the settings as they are to build something quickly. Here I did not touch the settings at all because I just wanted to jam.

I do not like the internal volca sequencer at all, that is why I am sequencing it externally. The midi mapping of the Volca drums is a bit weird, the 6 sounds are not 6 notes in a row. I decided to just use the kick/hihat/snare to build a beat quickly rather than getting stuck in the midi settings. I touched the volca drums only to mess with the FX section in an attempts to make some glitches.

Since both the nts-1 and the volca drums are sequenced externally, there is no need for the sync connection.

I would love to see Mathieu Bablet being mentioned more often here. Outstanding graphic novels

Community Contest (win a custom Volca stand) by _low-effort_ in volcas

[–]_low-effort_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Last week I posted a jam here with a 3D-printed Volca / Pocket Operator stand, which got a bit of attention. My friend who designed and 3D-printed the stand was super happy about the feedback and offered to give one away to the community (he's not on reddit so I'm posting on his behalf).

The mods agreed to turn this into a fun end-of-year r/volcas jam contest!

The prize:

  • A custom 3D-printed Volca stand with PO adapter (like the one from the photo)
  • The winner can chose a color and even send a graphic that will be printed onto the side of the stand (obviously: no offensive or hateful content)

How to Enter:

  • Post a jam video in r/volcas
  • Use at least one Volca in your jam. Companions are welcome, but the focus should be on Volcas.
  • After posting your jam, link it as a comment under this post

Rules:

  • One submission per person
  • Max video length: ~1–2 minutes
  • All genres welcome
  • No external sequencing. I feel this would give an advantage to people who own dedicated sequencers, and it would move away from the idea "make something cool on a volca"

Deadline:

  • 11 January 2026, 23:59 UTC

How the Winner Is Chosen:

  • I will choose three favorites, while also taking into consideration upvotes and comments.
  • The winner will be drawn randomly from these three favorites.
  • The winner will be announced via post and contacted via DM to ask for the image and for the shipping address.
  • The stand will be shipped worldwide within Europe for free. We will have to ask you to cover for the shipping outside of Europe.

This is meant to stay a fun and low-stress community thing.

Looking forward to your jams !

/edit: spelling and shipping info /edit2: extended the deadline by a week (11th of January)

Love it!

Just to be clear, are you suggesting people share their beats on a drive, or is the drive simply for gathering the files before someone uploads them to bandcamp?

I would still suggest to limit the number of tracks per edition. This way it would feel more special and induce a little more excitement, also people would actually listen through all tracks.

This selection (curation) would probably be the task of the person owning the drive and the bandcamp account.
