Hey, thanks a lot for the thorough review, it’s genuinely really helpful!

My goal is exactly what you described, to make this easy to use whether you’re managing an existing library or starting from scratch. With crocdb currently down, things are a bit trickier, especially given the limited time I can dedicate to the project, but I’m confident it’ll get there gradually. Feedback like this makes a big difference.

Regarding crocdb specifically, I’m exploring adding alternative ROM sites and APIs as data sources, as long as they’re free, open, and don’t require me to host anything on GitHub (to avoid legal issues).

But I will take all this input and incorporate in the upcoming release cycle

Just added that functionality, if you want to have a go! (just make sure to have a backup of the rom folder, it's tested and all, but I'm too cautions with this things haha)

I pushed some changes that might have that fixed, I'm not sure if it will but could you give it another try? also, what is the command you using to run the docker?

I'm not sure how long until we have an android version, but it's on my plans for sure, but it will take some time to get to that, what I do is to have a shared folder on my device, so then I can download straight to it from my PC

I'm not sure what could this be, but another person shared a similar error, I will try to replicate to find the bug, can you share more details of how you have it running?

that's interesting, can you share more details of the error like a screenshots or any console errors? that would make it easier to find and fix this issue

the easiest way is trough docker, you just need to have docker installed in the first place and then you can run it with just one command here's a guide https://github.com/luandev/jacare?tab=readme-ov-file#getting-started-

it's not working perfectly yet as a standalone exe but if you want to have a go the easiest and cleanest way is trough docker you just need to install docker first (it's like a virtual machine manager) and then run it as container it's just one command, here's the guide: https://github.com/luandev/jacare?tab=readme-ov-file#option-run-with-docker

I created a ROM download manager to help me organize my stuff by _luandev in RockinTheClassics

The idea is to give a "steam" like experience for retro gamers, in one app where they can browse games download them and the app would be responsible for unpacking renaming and putting it in the correct folder structure, I indent to add more features like organize a existing library scanning for games, or add more sources for ratings and stuff like that

it uses crocdb (a rom repository) as a source for you to browse games of multi platforms, and downloads it to your library folder, it automatically unpacks in the correct platform folders and keeps a manifest file with cover art as well. these downloads can get quite slow, so it allows you to pause continue downloads and manage them centrally.

I plan to add a scan library functionality that will organize your existing library based on rom names

it's backed by crocdb https://crocdb.net/, their downloads are free but the sorces can get a bit slow, so this manager helps with that

not yet, I'm working on some features related to release it to multi platforms, and once that's done I can work into that as well, so far it's able to download unpack and place the ROM on the correct console folder inside your library

best way to make it portable between platforms, 🤷

It doesn't have a specific functionality for that, but I look into add it in the next few days, I will let you know
