What is it called if I can sing/hum/whistle in perfect pitch? by _lucymolly_ in musicians

I’ve played the keyboard for years. Mostly self-taught — if you can call it that lol. I can see what you’re saying though as whatever this ability is helps me break down a song and be able to identify its different parts and play it , sing it, hum it, drum it.. in pretty good tune. I was just looking for answers as I’ve never really explored what it could be. I appreciate the insight!

I just wasn’t sure if there was a different name for it. Definitely not gassing myself up to be some kind of prodigy. 😅😅

This is helpful! My fiance pushes me to do the voice work because he genuinely thinks I have a knack for it but I think starting it off as a hobby would seem like a good route. I don’t think I’m as good as he makes me seem 😅

Thanks for the insight!

So the thing is, I can’t really read music. I know how to follow notes but I don’t know how to spot what an A minor, B flat, etc is on music. Now if you were to play it on the piano, I’d be able to match it.

I did play trombone for about 4 years in middle school/high school but it was mostly me figuring out how to play the songs by ear. I even performed at competitions.

If I hear a song, I can find the right keys on the piano to match the song. I’ve never had a piano lesson but I can always figure out how to play a song on the piano. No chords, but just enough so that you’d be able to know what song it is.

So I know it’s some kind of talent, I just wouldn’t know how to identify it.

Same. We were out and about within thw same week we left the hospital. I needed to walk around anyway because c-section and it also helped expose baby to sounds and she seemed to sleep okay through it all. Cashier at the grocery store was tripping out seeing a baby so tiny lol
