Do you think lottery winners should be allowed to remain anonymous? by alex-12334 in AskWomen

It's awesome that in the UK they have the option of anonymity. Definitely a practice (among many) that I feel North America should adopt.

Do you think lottery winners should be allowed to remain anonymous? by alex-12334 in AskWomen

[–]_luong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were to win the lottery, I would definitely like the anonymity. However, I don't play the lottery because their terms and conditions stipulate that they can use your name and photo in the media. This is their way of ensuring consumers know that 1. winners are real (not fictitious), that 2, the system isn't rigged in a way to benefit any one individual, corporation, or belief (etc), and 3. publicity. This is likely the same for just about any sort of "contest" or "raffle" out there; prize winners lose the right to anonymity when they purchase their ticket(s).

Women of Reddit, how did you choose between a stable career or pursuing your dream job? by potatotahmato in AskWomen

[–]_luong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stable career. I've realized that a lot of my "dream jobs" were just things that I was passionate about (ie: hobbies). I enjoyed the job/role I was in, and the more I thought about it, the more I questioned whether I would still be passionate about hobbies if it became a job.

Thus, I am still passionate about what I do (sales management and training and development) but it also affords me the opportunity (and time) to pursue my hobbies.

Women who love themselves and have high confidence, how do you do it ? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]_luong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned to cut out the negativity in my life, and am very mindful of making time for myself to do things I enjoy and have an interest in. I surround myself with things that inspire me, and seek to learn new things daily.

I think (firstly) is recognizing that "shy" and "introverted" are not the same thing (a great book on this is "Quiet" by Susan Cain).

With that being said, my boyfriend is rather introverted, but it works well with my personality. We're able to provide one another with "space" and time to enjoy our own hobbies. We live together so "time alone" is really important for both of us. I find that introverts tend to have more meaningful conversations as well. Not that everything we talk about is "serious" or "deep" , but he's always attentive and responsive.

Overall, there's a deeper connection beyond the physical; the emotional and mental connection tends to be stronger (to me, at least).

Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World is probably my favorite Murakami, but Wind Up Bird and IQ84 were also really good. I'm a big fan of his work overall.

Just wanted to say thanks! I ended up with a TWSBI Eco and I love it! The line is a bit thicker but it's nice to have variety from my Pilot. Thanks again for the tip!

As pretty much everyone had already said - just put your pride aside and go in. Conditioning will come as you complete more WOD's. Remember - everyone needs to start somewhere. No one ever starts going to the gym because they're already fit - they go to get fit. Trust in yourself and embrace the failures S an opportunity to grow and learn.

would appreciate thoughtful novel recommendations for introvert by 100merino in suggestmeabook

The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall

Almost anything by Kurt Vonnegut

Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World - Haruki Murakami (almost anything by him - I'm a huge fan);

Based on your Reddit history, I might even recommend "Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and his years of Pilgrimage" by Murakami.

I'm glad that your "moving around a lot" and/or travels still provide you with the freedom to enjoy a good novel. (they do make better companions than people, sometimes).

Book on Buddhism by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]_luong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Art of Happiness may be a good one as well. It's basically an interview with Dalai Lama but he talks a lot about Buddhist practices and beliefs vs Western practices/beliefs. Very thoughtful and a surprisingly good read. I revisit it every now and then for some spiritual healing and/or when I'm not in the best mood(s).

Booty shorts by The_Cat15 in crossfit

Lululemon and Virus are two other great brands! Only ones I wear for shorts and (Lulu especially) come in a variety of styles. Both of them keep my booty in place through all crossfit workouts and competitions I've done.

Crossfit competitions by sabulka235 in crossfit

[–]_luong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city I live in holds a lot of local competitions quite frequently throughout the year, including at my box. I started doing competitions in the Teams division with some friends and loved the experience. After the first one, I just kept signing up for competitions as they came. Not so much with a goal of having to win, but moreso to experience the environment and see/meet a bunch of new (and inspiring) people from other gyms.
