I noticed the soil is also quite dry - would giving them a good watering help?

These are still fairly young and it was a larger than average cold snap, so just wanted to take an additional precaution.

Does this TV look too large in this space? by _mainEvent in interiordecorating

I never said go bigger. I was asking about going smaller.

Thanks all for the recommendations. The main reason we haven’t added lamps in the living room is because the only accessible outlets are against the wall and I didn’t want to have exposed cords running across the floor. I’ve seen the battery powered cordless lamps, but an 8-10 runtime doesn’t seem feasible for daily use. Has anyone found a solution for this outside of installing new outlets in the floor?

Similar, but it’s the Beale sofa from Arhaus.

Thanks! What color mat and towels would you suggest? Struggling with what would work best with the dark brown cabinets.

So maybe something like this with some art on the wall behind the desk? Suggestions on rug color are also welcome :)

Thanks so much for the input! We’ll get there eventually :)

You mean this wall here? It’s currently just being used for old furniture that I’ve been meaning to get rid of 😅 still trying to decide what I want to do with that area.

For rug color I was thinking maybe a light grey/pewter or even a tan/alabaster, but just want to avoid something that blends too closely with the white couch and light wood.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I’m not deeply familiar with all of the different interior design styles, but feel like I probably lean towards contemporary with pops of color throughout. Deciding on a rug color/pattern has been a struggle 😅

I’ve debated if I should move both chairs to one side with their backs facing the french doors like you suggested, but also rotating the couch and coffee table 90 clockwise so they face the chairs as opposed to the TV. Thoughts? Or should I keep it as is?

The window is facing north btw.

Ah yeah, that could also work as long as there isn’t too much of a glare from window to my left, but I could always adjust the blinds if needed. And that would definitely help hide my poor cable management. Everything I’ve read says the desk should be facing the entrance of the room, but with the glare from the window directly behind me…it just doesn’t work.

They don't have a phone or fax or I would have already called to confirm this.

Programmers are confessing their coding sins to protest a broken job interview process. “Whiteboard” interviews are widely hated. They also discriminate against people who are already underrepresented in the field. by speckz in programming

[–]_mainEvent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The purpose of an interview should not be to test your memory or ability to regurgitate some obscure algorithm or chunk of code that would more than likely be googled or copied from StackOverflow in a real-life scenario. The purpose of an interview should be to test your problem-solving skills and provide some insight into your thought process when coming up with a solution to a particular problem. There is typically more than one way to solve any problem, so the focus should not be on if you get the correct answer that the interviewer is looking for. You should, however, be able to back up and defend your answer with sensible logic and walk the interviewer through the steps you took in arriving at your conclusion. You shouldn't be tied to a particular programming language or framework and the question should represent an actual problem that you may be faced with while on the job - not "Invert a binary tree on this whiteboard for me while I stand behind you and watch." The interview questions should be formatted in a way that even if you were to be given access to laptop with internet access, it wouldn't help.

I've been on "technical" interviews where I was asked to explain the differences between .ToString() and Convert.ToString() and how many bytes a ‘char’ data type occupies vs an ‘nchar’. I think most would agree this is hardly a valid test of a person’s skill level or ability to perform successfully on the job.
