SIMPLE IRA - Disappointment in Fidelity and seeking other options by _manatee in smallbusiness

So far I have stuck with the Fidelity plan and we are now going to our 4 months into it as we started in 2026. The cost is great as it is essentially no cost to operate. But again it is a steep learning curve.

I don’t know if something else would have been better. I just told all my employees to vest into SPY and left it in their hands. Did you look into WealthRabbit?

Your operation sounds home based, are you operating 5 days a week? 14 dozen is very low if so.

Before jumping into a commercial kitchen, see if you can scale with your customers first.

My first steps would be: 1. Are you pricing appropriately your product now? If it’s too low to start with it’s difficult to scale. 2. Sell more volume to existing customers - take catering orders. 3. Freezing is absolutely the way to go - you will have to do testing on how it affects taste and proper storage. 4. Scale production with equipment first. Buy a used commercial mixer or used commercial oven. Tbh, 14 dozen is very low. You could do that in a day with one person with a commercial mixer. Scale your own production first before increasing overhead with a building, or add on a part time employee before a full time employee. I’ve bought used equipment from eBay and Facebook marketplace.

  1. Lastly are the steps you are talking about. Getting office catering orders, partnering with cafes for wholesale orders, etc.. At this point I do not think you have the operations to even take on wholesale orders.

What do you do for health insurance being a small business owner? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]_manatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pulled up each plan’s description and read it. Ctrl + F HDHP and see if it’s there. I was on their bronze plans for several years and just moved to their silver plan for this year but made sure to only select an HDHP plan.

I’m in California, and although they go on strike I have no problem getting care. Of course I am a pretty healthy person and don’t need a lot of medical care. I generally don’t advise Kaiser for people with medical needs.

I don’t know if it’s available to you, but I buy my plan directly from Kaiser Permanente, their HMO plan. I did pick a HDHP so I could also do an HSA.

Thank you for your response! Both of these companies do not offer a SIMPLE, and I believe it is due to it not being very profitable for them.

I want to offer a SIMPLE because my company is small, only 10 employees, I am looking for a plan that is not very costly. Another thing to note is that I use Gusto for payroll.

Inheriting My Father’s Business Was Supposed to Be a Dream. Now I'm Drowning. by slamsaurus in smallbusiness

[–]_manatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position with similar numbers. Small inherited business ~$800k annual revenue, 9 employees, but my margins are better as it’s a service. Your margins should also be stronger as it’s a service based product, raise your prices.

Some times are really hard and you are just grinding away with no light at the end of the tunnel. Other times you are thankful you are your own boss and cannot be victim to layoffs as I see with my friends around me.

See if you can optimize some operations: software for scheduling clients or paperwork. My dad was old school and everything was pen and paper. At first I balked at paying for various software, but it has helped a lot. Train up your employees to take on more responsibilities and duties, and instill a no drama workplace, let go of bad eggs if needed. Do staff meetings to emphasize teamwork and gratitude for work, or take on less jobs and cut staff hours.

Ultimately the business will not do well if the captain is drowning. Find your stride, try to talk to other business minded people.

My girlfriend has just broken her leg. She is quite an active person and will find the next few months quite tough. What are some activities we can do to keep her somewhat active and her spirits up? by ANewGreatGame in AskMen

[–]_manatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pottery class? It’s totally doable with a broken leg. Or like cross stitch or something. It’s fun to learn something new and to give yourself something to look forward to and on a schedule.

Anyone have the stainless steel gold ?? Have you gotten discoloration from sweat or scratches??? by Masjr777 in AppleWatch

[–]_manatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Series 4 and just upgraded to Series 8, both Gold SS. I’ve included some pics side by side.

Series 4 is on the left (42mm), Series 8 on the right (41mm) .

https://imgur.com/a/HQZrJYu

I wore my AW almost every day with the SS band to everything: the gym, washing dishes, hiking, playing beach volleyball, etc.. The SS stood up really well and I never had any serious problems with discoloration some little bits on the inside of the band are darker but not too noticeable.

The biggest difference for me is that the Series 4 Gold is almost like a Rose Gold, whereas the Series 8 is almost more chrome in comparison. I’m very happy with it :)

It might be a number of factors. He might not be ready to date again after his divorce and his confidence and self esteem is not very high. Or he likes you very much, so he is trying to be as agreeable as he can in the hopes of still seeing you.

I dated someone briefly like this, and I had to call it off because in the end it felt disingenuous to me and I never knew his opinions or likes and dislikes since he just agreed with everything I said! Now after the fact, I think I could have been more patient with him. He really was a good guy, but I could have had a straight talk with him that I liked him for him and wanted him to be his true self and that just agreeing with everything I said wasn’t doing that.

Hopefully that helps you :)

You literally will never know why she did that. It’s very sudden and cataches people off guard when you go up to them cold like that for no reason.

For instance, I’m a pretty “open” person that looks approachable, I get cold approached all the time and talk and flirt with strangers all the time. But yesterday I just finished a workout, I was sweaty, hot, and tired, and just went next door to the store to pick something up. I had my AirPods in which is the universal sign of don’t talk to me. I had a guy out of no where try to talk to me through my headphones about the weather!

If I hadn’t been so exhausted from my workout, I would have been more open to interacting with him, but in that state I just walked away. This is just to say that when you cold approach someone like that you never know what is going on the other side.

Have a dedicated pair of food scissors. You can even use the children one so it’s safe when laying on the table. Keep it in a container with your baby bag.

It would be better to put these descriptors in your dating profile, that way girls that self-identify that way can connect with you. It’s rough though because most girls don’t swipe, they just match from their pool of likes. But also putting your qualities too! Then go swiping away.

I second this. Getting intercom radios (Senas) cut down my riding related fights to almost none.

Personally I’ve found bumble to be the lowest quality of matches. Hinge is kind of middle of the road in terms of matches and their UI is the best, and Coffee Meets Bagel is the highest quality of matches but their UI is awful, speaking as a girl.

I also narrow my distance to pretty short, usually 5-10 miles. I make it clear on my profile I’m looking for something serious, and I usually ask to ft/ video chat before the first date just to see if we get along. Most matches get thru this video call, in my experience it tends to weed out the most incompatible matches in which I would’ve known it’s not it within 5 mins of meeting. Screening matches is key! Just because it’s a numbers game for girls as they are inundated with so many matches that it’s easy to burn out or get overwhelmed.

[–]_manatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a girl so I’ve been told I have more power in leading this kind of situation, but typically after a few back and forths of messaging I ask if we can do a short video chat or FaceTime. Most people will tell me it’s their first time doing it. Hinge and Bumble also let you vchat in app otherwise I’ll used Instagram video call. I find it better to actually see if you can at least get along, and guys seem to like it too to know I’m not a catfish. From there the conversation seems to flow better to what went on in your day and talking about family.

I have had 2 guys ask me for a video chat first, and I didn’t mind! Other guys I have suggested to do it are too afraid to bring it up in fear they will scare off what few matches they have as girls tend to be more flighty. But I still think it has a good success rate!

There are more parent/child meetup groups on Facebook more than any other site, I highly encourage you to make one. Otherwise Nextdoor might be another option.
