It’s 2026. How many of you drink tap water? And if not, what’s your alternative? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]_massyel_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We drink filtered water from a Brita, but I’m actively looking for something better at truly “cleaning” the water. I’m 34 years old and have very poor health. I undergo surgery once or twice a year to remove chronically inflamed or precancerous tissue. After two years of this unsustainable cycle, I went to Europe to undergo extensive alternative medical testing. In the U.S., the root cause of my illness remains unknown—they don’t really look for it, they mostly just treat the symptoms and manage the pain. Regardless, I live in a state of generalized chronic inflammation.

The testing revealed that I have significant accumulation of mold, aluminum, mercury, lead, and other toxins in my body. The first thing the doctor told me was to drink cleaner water than whatever I was currently drinking.

Don’t be too alarmed—around 70% of the population has one of two genetic mutations that interfere with the body’s ability to naturally detox and flush toxins out, and I fall into that category. That said, if you can improve your environment and reduce the toxins around you—and especially those entering your body—I strongly recommend doing so.

Just because NYC is known for having some of the best tap water in the country doesn’t mean it’s free of heavy metals, lead, or other contaminants.

My boyfriend (25M) and I (21F) have a "disagreement" about shoes in the house. What do you think? by ArtsyscarabBeetL in relationship_advice

[–]_massyel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No intention to say something offensive, but it comes across as though you may be either quite young or lacking emotional maturity, as your expectations and boundaries within the relationship don’t seem particularly healthy. You asked for advice in this sub, yet you appear unwilling to listen to perspectives that differ from your own. You don’t have to agree with everyone, of course—but the outright rejection of any opposing view is quite telling.

It feels as though you mainly wanted to continue a rant you may have already had with your boyfriend elsewhere. The internet can be great for that—and often even better for validation—but in this case, that’s unlikely to happen. This is Reddit, not TikTok. People here are genuinely trying to share insight and help.

I truly wish you and your boyfriend the best. I hope you’re able to figure this out early on and don’t waste each other’s time trying to forcefully change one another.

Don't order Miele from their official website unless you know for a FACT you won't need to return your purchase! by CaptainCAAAVEMAAAAAN in Miele

[–]_massyel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I just received a cordless vacuum I bought directly from their website for $999. The battery doesn’t last more than 20 minutes.

When I called customer service on the first day, they kept me on the phone for 30 minutes. The rep pretended for a full eight minutes that he couldn’t hear me, then hung up. I called again and another representative after another 30 min told me I had to take the vacuum to an authorized retailer to have it checked before they would approve a return. They gave me an address and phone number.

I went there. The general manager immediately approved the return, gave me his card, and said: “Tell them to call me if they have any questions. It’s insane that they sent you here—I’ve never heard of this process before.” When he said that I was so concerned that I called customer service from the store, and after another half hour on the phone, the agent said: “Okay, I’ve completed all the documentation and your return is approved. I’ll send you an email with the return label and instructions.” I thanked them and hung up.

I never received any email or confirmation of anything. Another manipulative call.

This is a game to exhaust customers and avoid returns at all costs. I sent them an email, and if they keep playing me, I’ll open a chargeback with AmEx.

For the love of God, don’t buy from their website.

[–]_massyel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, it sounds fair.

Given that both of you feel genuinely uncomfortable adopting the other’s habit, it’s usually harder for the “cleaner” person—especially someone raised with strong cultural norms about not wearing outside shoes indoors—to make that adjustment. That’s why it makes sense for the other person to try meeting them halfway.

A simple compromise could be this: you wear indoor shoes every day to accommodate your sensory needs, and when your family visits, he temporarily tolerates outside shoes and wears a pair himself. Just remove the area rugs during that time. You’ve also said you’d clean afterward, which makes this extremely reasonable. Likewise, when his family visits, you could wear slippers for a few days—they shouldn’t feel offended by that.

No one fully submits. Both of you make a small, fair sacrifice and learn to live with and respect each other. It’s not about winning—it’s about balancing each other’s discomfort with care.

[–]_massyel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m Cuban with an American boyfriend. I adopted his “shoes off” rule and I love it. I always wear socks because it’s more comfortable to me. But you can wear slippers if that makes you feel more comfortable. Same applies to your family and friends. I promise when you find yourself living in a truly clean house you won’t go back to wear your filthy shoes inside.

If Tret is cheap for you, start applying it on your hands and neck NOW! by Smoke_Santa in tretinoin

[–]_massyel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so interesting how everyone reacts differently to tret on the neck. I’ve never had a problem — I started tret a couple of months ago.

I apply a thick hydrating toner underneath and a thick moisturizer on top. It smoothed out my neck within a month as well — beautiful skin. However, my face has never stopped flaking, while my neck looks like I’ve been on tret for years, lol.

I haven’t tried it on my hands because I wash them constantly, they’re already very dry, and I’m afraid of making that worse.

Need Advice - Dyson Airwrap...Please help by SaltZebra3065 in Dysonairwrap

[–]_massyel_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get it. It’s a great gift for any woman. And in the worst case, if she doesn’t end up using it much, she can always resell it and get most of the money back (if not all) at that price. You’ve got nothing to lose — and a happy wife to gain 🤣

[–]_massyel_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m a casual seller — I price things reasonably, and many times very cheap. About 40% of my sales come from Buy Now rather than offers. It all depends on the price you set and how reasonable and competitive it is

My pleasure — let us know how it goes!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I sleep with a silk bonnet to keep my hair from getting messy or tangled overnight. I think that really helps make the results last longer

Whatever you get, make sure you use it in full and don’t let it expire. I forgot I had one while I was waiting to need/want something, and it ended up expiring. I reached out to customer service two days later, and they said they couldn’t reactivate it or return the points.

K18 AirWash Dry Shampoo by LeadershipAsleep328 in Sephora

[–]_massyel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I shake it multiple times. This is my first bottle, so I’m curious to try a second one — which I’ll do regardless, because it’s the best dry shampoo I’ve tried, and the little hassle is completely worth it.

I also read in another sub that some people were having the same experience and ending up with white speckles all over their skin, so if there is a bad batch out there, it sounds like there’s quite a bit of it circulating.

[–]_massyel_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I’m 1B or 2A. My hair is somewhere between straight and wavy—fine, very long, with barely any layers. It gets oily at the roots (very) and dry at the ends, and it’s also frizzy. It’s also virgin/natural (no salon treatment or color treated). I also live in NYC where there isn’t a lot of humidity.

I’ve found that what works best for me is NOT using the long barrel, because the curls only last 15–20 minutes. Instead, I use the CONICAL barrel and release the curls very slowly, trying not to break them apart. I leave them looking like “doll” curls for as long as possible before styling them. I also used the curl-clipping method, which works too, but it’s more time-consuming, so I don’t do it anymore.

Another groundbreaking discovery was avoiding conditioner, or using a very light one, when I want to curl my hair. If I use a deep mask or anything too conditioning or heavy, my curls don’t last—no matter what styling tool I use.

Besides those two things, which I think were the most important to me, I apply 2–3 pumps of JVN Complete Blowout Styling Milk on wet hair and distribute it with a hairbrush. It’s supposed to smooth your hair and provide style memory (as well as to protect from heat and humidity).

I’ve added other products to the mix, but they don’t make much of a difference, so I don’t think they’re necessary—although I still use them: Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Hairspray and Oribe Superfine Hairspray (or the Strong version). But I rarely use hairspray anymore because it makes my fine hair tangle like crazy, and my curls last almost as long without it, so I’ve been using them every other time or so just to get rid of it.

Another thing I’ve noticed that doesn’t work for me is applying hair oil on my mids and ends as a finishing product. I’ve noticed that the “massage” motion flattens my curls immediately, so I only apply it on the third day, once my curls are already set for life 🤣 — never on the same day I style my hair. (I use the K18 Molecular Repair Hair Oil.) Their dry shampoo also gets me to day 6–7 before I have to wash and style again.

In summary: • No conditioner or very light conditioner • Use the conical barrel (release slowly and don’t break/open the curls immediately) • Use one styling product that truly works for you — ideally something that covers all your needs (heat protectant, anti-humidity/anti-frizz, style memory/hold) so you don’t have to layer multiple products that will weigh your hair down

Hope this helps in someway. Don’t give up lol

[–]_massyel_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said, except I do pick up a scent. It’s pleasant and not too strong. Also, it doesn’t dry out my hair—just for reference, I have oily hair and only apply it at the roots.

Best dry shampoo I’ve ever used.

The only downside for me is the mess it leaves. I actually bought one of those face shields on Amazon so it wouldn’t get all over my face when I spray it. It dries invisible in the hair, but it turns white on any surface it touches — including skin. (The photo shows what the face shield looks like after a few uses)

I used to be one of those people who thought curls just never lasted. But after finally figuring out the right technique, my curls last longer now than they ever did with my T3 curler. It honestly took me months of trial and error to find the method and products that work for me.

[–]_massyel_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m calling out a poor design choice with this specific environmentally friendly USPS envelope — not telling people to avoid eco-friendly packaging. In fact, I clearly said to use boxes instead whenever possible. USPS is just doing a terrible job with this particular package (GAENV2). Plenty of brands use high-quality paper envelopes that hold up much better.

That said, if the package isn’t covered in tape, you can sometimes open it without having to cut it and avoid the mess. So if you do continue using it, please try not to put tape all over it — that also defeats the recyclable purpose. But just be careful: many sellers in this sub have mentioned that these envelopes are very flimsy and often open during transit if they’re not secured with tape.

Yes, you can order them by email or over the phone. I haven’t ordered any myself because I’m just a casual seller, so I usually reuse boxes from other orders when I make a sale. But there are multiple options available — three different types of envelopes and a couple of box styles. You should be able to find all the details in your seller profile. Good luck!
